To end all this nonsense about making everything available in survival mode (and to end people wanting to deceive others about whether or not a world is purely survival) once and for all, I propose that 4J create unique sets of leaderboards for creative mode and adventure mode and delete the survival mode leaderboards completely (since they're hacked and basically crap anyways). This might encourage people to actually make better use of the features of creative mode rather than being adverse towards putting a world into creative mode because it then loses leaderboard status. It should also end the "love" some people have for using other "cheats" like duplication glitches.
I don't think this would really change anything from any perspective, as any leaderboard 4J create - whether it's for the current Survival, or for Creative and Adventure - will inevitably end up hacked. Take a look at almost any online leaderboard for any game and you'll notice it too has been hacked. No matter what blocks are put in place to try and prevent it, people will find a way around. If it makes you feel any better, a lot of the people right at the top of the Minecraft leadboards have had their accounts blocked, so someone noticed and reported them.
As for having just Creative and Adventure, I don't think people play Minecraft based on leaderboard formats. True, there are a few players who refuse to open a Survival map in Creative because it blocks that map from accruing player stats, but most players choose Survival because of the inherent game play differences from Creative. Changing the leaderboard format is not going to make people rethink their typical behaviours on Minecraft.
As for preventing cheating, I don't think this will have any effect either as people will always cheat; as long as there is an exploitable point in a game, people will use it, regardless of the stipulations or potential risks. In GTA there are many ways to legitimately make money, and people still cheat. IN RPGs there are ways to make money, improve character stats, etc., and players will always find glitches to exploit infinite XP farming methods.
All true enough... but I just had to put it out there. I find it "sad" in a way that so many people posting here continually ask for ways to effectively turn "survival" into "creative without losing leaderboard status." (e.g. the "spawn eggs in survival mode" thread current just below this one)... so I thought that maybe giving creative some leaderboard status somehow might "legitimize" it a bit. I've been told that people playing on PC don't have the same sort of aversion to using creative mode that people playing on the Xbox do.
I could care less about my leaderboard stats in relation to other players... I just don't want to take my survival worlds into creative mode for ANY reason. so this suggestion would not really affect me much at all, and it certainly wouldn't help when new updates don't make content available to my older survival worlds.
I think having leaderboards for creative mode is relatively pointless overall, but survival and adventure mode, I do like to see how my progress is going, so I do appreciate the stats for that end in and of itself. However, I'd rather have there be additional separate stats for each world/game file that is independent of the players' overall totals.
This'd really have no effect on me, nor would it last. I know a guy who could right now max out his leaderboards--that's unavoidable.
Really, I just think people have been spoiled by Creative mode and obsess a little too much over a frail virtual number. I'm all for replacing leaderboards with local/friend statistics such as the PC has. Maxing out stone five times over has gotten boring, and I'd like to know about ore, wood, torches, and so on. Kill the leaderboards and people who have all of the Achievements won't worry about switching among the modes; the "legit" people will stay in Survival, the lazies will still duplicate because Creative is apparently a no-no, and others can switch around more freely and do their thing.
And what's this about Adventure mode? I don't exactly think that is for normal play, and if I read correctly, then I wouldn't be logging any more points since I'd be staying in Survival.
