Like with anything it just takes some practice, keep trying new designs until you find one that works. Worst comes to worst there's always the Internet to help, and I'm sure there are tons of videos/posts on how to make them.
Sadly there aren't interiors (most of them aren't made for interiors) and I rather focus on the outsides for now until I get the feel for the hull. Maybe I'll try to make one now with some insides to show off too. Thanks for checking these out!
Another ship done, this one more or less based off of (Spanish) frigates during the time, without being too strict in my own styles. I plan on another small break while I dive deeper into my research to make the perfect ship.
Nice work, I can see a definite rolling improvement going on here. Quickly too!
If I were to offer any thoughts on areas to work on-
Your hulls are especially coming along nicely, there's not much I'd say there aside from keep doing what you're doing. I particularly like the way your beakheads are developing.
The masts and rigging could perhaps use a better 'balance', if that's the right word. The latest one looks a little odd to me in that the foremast is much taller than the mainmast, and they're a bit light on the shrouds and stays. It's hard to get the lines right in minecraft, especially when you're working at 1:1 scale because anything you can conceivably do to represent ropes is going to be too bulky, but I think only doing small shrouds and a few stays looks weird; I've found builds often look better with 'too much' rigging rather than too little. Might be worth a try.
Have you had a go at doing the ships under sail yet?
Thank you for taking your time to reply. I have looked over my ships and in my latest one have taken your advice into consideration. I should have pics up within a week.
As for being under sail, i have tried and lets just say its better off without it. I have a hard time getting the size down correctly, but this may have been because of the oversized or undersized masts. I'll give it a go once I'm free again and can build ships.
Otherwise, I promise my ships will only get better from here on out.
My Current fleet of one. A mix of a frigate and a brig, sort of a sloop.
[More pictures will be added as the ships are built/updated.]
My second ship, another sloop, this time in a more traditional mast setup. More sure to come!
That looks cool. I like what you did with the sails.
Thanks, I figured that was the easiest way to do them without actually doing them
My third ship, a little gunboat ready for action. Planning a much larger ship next, support is welcome!
I tried to build a ship once and I butchered the sails. The whole thing looked like a turd floating in the water.

My 4th ship, finally something that will strike fear into those on the seas: a galleon. Next up, frigates!
I have finally tried my hand at a much more traditional ship, a small frigate that's more strictly based off of ships during the time.
My newest 74 gun galleon, based off of the HMS Victory, I'm working my way to more realistic ships.
Are you decking out (pun intended) the interior of the ships as well or are these just exoskeletons? They look fantastic.

My next ship with a lot more focus on the rigging and masts, hopefully much more realistic than before.
