Like Ubergine said, TU27 was primarily a bug fix. Its not unprecedented for 4J to rush a small patch to fix issues that affect the game in some major way. Adding the wood types to creative mode was a nice bonus. I would just venture a guess and say that the saplings weren't added because the growth algorithm hadn't been programmed yet at the time.
Quite frankly I think it's pathetic that so many people expect every patch update to contain copious amounts of new features. They can't just be happy with the inch, they need to take the mile.
Exactly D. I am happy with added features that werent present to start with. Would I like more? Of course, anyone and everyone does but complaining that it wasnt added does seem quite selfish.
The reason there's not a lot is because it's a teaser update. We now know about acacia wood and dark wood so that means we will be getting the biomes update so it may not be impressive but 4j does have a plan
A new TU is out too, along with the Star Wars Rebels skin pack being now available for PS platforms, looks like it's just a bug fix for now. Doesn't look like a letdown to me, let's just leave 4J working their best to give us the full 1.7.2 update or who knows add 1.8 completely too, like happened back in TU19. Patience is all I have.
More than Alex skins. Google MineCraft version history and read the wiki.
They've added features piecemeal from the beginning, but its generally the most obvious feature - biome code - that has everyone saying "console is at PC version X".
This also may look nitpicky and useless in a way, but looks like another block had its textures changed with this update, much like what happened with the rose (currently a poppy). Go check the sponge block in the creative menu.

Perpetually negative
I hear you. I started off not liking it but who cares if they only added the blocks. I don't play creative so it is of no concern
to me really. While I am still just a tad preturbed(spelling?), I have grown to really like some of the superflat survival ideas
and I have gone full blown classic crafting since day one.
So it really seems that I can honestly say that I am sorry for being a hothead and letting it get the best of me. I am just
happy we are not caught up with 1.9, lord could only imagine the threats 4j would recieve for not being able to not swing
your sword, full power, in more spam-to-win fashion. Drown in bleach... Smdh... Really?!

I really would jus be happy with the fish update really. The biomes are going to be massive no doubt, so massive I really believe
that 4j will have to add them a few at a time. I really believe we will see the next update just before Thanksgiving and it will
likely contain 3-5 new biomes, more towards 3 honestly. They have to code it in first, then add necessary blocks or features,
then do mob spawn ratios and biome rarity. Then after that they have to program those biomes into custom superflat
and after all that is done, recode each new biome to the multitude of texture packs. Adding all biomes at once would be suicide.

The updates so far have been a little boring but by the looks of it its going to have alot of stuff on The next big update so i am exited!
I don't believe we will see 1.8 stuff, beyond the alex skins and new poppy texture, for a good long while. Probably toward the end of next year.
Like I said, the biomes will take a lot of coding to add in. Not that there is anything wrong with hoping. I just do not believe 4j will
ever do a large update like tu19 ever again since it led to so many bugs. Patience is key for sure but I am just hoping for
simple adds that won't break the game or stuff like redstone.

yeah the alex skins but thats it isn't it? I'm not entirely familiar with 1.8, never played pc.

From what I understand 4J gets the pc version. The only problem is then recoding it from Java to C++ or C#. Basically,
they have to re-invent the game just to run it on consoles. I know a few people who believe Minecraft should have never
been available for previous gen consoles due to so many limitations due to console performance and the requirements
needed to run Minecraft in the first place.
