To be honest I don't think many people would mind this being added to the game, provided it was added as an optional feature that could be deactivated in favour for the current crafting system.
I prefer to use the classic crafting system because I feel a greater sense of accomplishment having made something from items that I collected and then had to remember a recipe for. I always thought it was lazy for 4J to implement a system whereby having the items in your inventory allowed you to instantly, and without skill, craft any item you needed. Then again, I understand that, due to control limitations, it was a necessary and at least logical method of implementing crafting into the game.
People still have issues using the free moving cursor in the inventory screens, and I often find myself using the D-Pad instead as it allows for greater precision. As long as they keep that whilst implementing classic crafting, I won't really mind.
One of the primary reasons was the lack of a wiki.
It's great discovering new recipes on PC - for a lot of users however they would navigate to a wiki in order to find out how to do certain items.
Our system was designed to be far more console friendly.

I don't want to waste my time dragging and dropping stuff just to craft a single item. If I could do so quickly like with a mouse, then it's fine, but doing it on a console would be slow and annoying.

Syeonyx, I respect your opinion on this mater, your a brave man. That being said, I reject your opinion and favor my own; and feel like 4j did the right thing
ps, had the classic been the norm for Xbox, we would have a lot more people looking up recipes online, finding PC recipes, and saying the games bugged. I think.
I don't really care if they add it... just don't abandon the crafting system the console has already. I wouldn't want to be compelled to halt my game play to go to a Wiki to learn (or remember crafting recipes) every few minutes. If they do eliminate the current crafting - I'd quit playing. If they add it as an option, I'd just never use it.

I would love it as an option. It would be fun to tinker around with actually building recipes.
But I've gotten intimately used-to the existing system. I can pretty much navigate the menu blindfolded.
I can't remember if it was Steve or Daniel, but about a year ago someone from 4J responded to a question regarding a "craft all" button saying they will look into implementing it. What ever happened to that?
I ask because I see "classic" crafting accomplishing this easily. It might be the determining factor in which system I end up using.
Well then thank goodness it will most likely be an option, I see no use what so ever for it. I don't have a great memory for individual items and recipes and I definitely do not have the patience to put one item in each box. Doesn't matter how fast you can make the inventory cursor go, it would be painstaking for me. The Xbox control is not as precise as a mouse for a computer. But if others want it, go ahead and give it to them, as an option of course.

I would not mind the classic crafting being added as long as you have the option to choose between the current system and the classic. Personally, I would never use the classic because I also have no memory for these recipes and no interest in putting each material one at a time into a box to make my item with the xbox controller
Both systems have their advantages and disadvantages.
XBox Crafting is easier because you don't have to layout all the components in the pattern for it and play with the wiki open. However the crafting interface is more cluttered and finding where everything is takes some getting used to.
PC is harder because you do have to lay out the patterns for what you want to make but you can mass craft a little easier. Need 32 repeaters? Just place 32 of each piece in the crafting grid and craft them all at once.
what you guys means by classic crafting is it like you place those items in the craft table like you manually do on pc version..? or something different,if do please explain how?
any news on new mobs and new block they be releasing this coming update?
i voted yes, i will use them sometimes if i have more time to craft in classic mode, and if not i can go back to auto craft mode.. this is good if you have a pvp arena and players can do craft in classic style in minecraft!

I think this would be great, adds a challenge, PLUS this would be a whole new perception for mods since they all require classic crafting. also why has no one mentioned door stacking, the most important thing.
...also why has no one mentioned door stacking, the most important thing.
Probably because needing an excessive amount of doors is a fairly uncommon thing. Major village modification and iron farm making are the only times I can think of that'd need many doors at once.
I'm sorry but I see this as a total waste of development resources, if anything the console crafting system should be added to the PC. The time spend on this would be better spend creating an automatic crafting system for fireworks or something like a console exclusive flower, or well writeable books
I think a lot of people want it because the PC has it but then after a month or so the actual use of it will be down to 1% of the user base at most.
For the most part it was already implemented (Mostly due to the Firework interface using Classic Crafting) - We had a few additional art assets to make for it and that was about it.
We have the ability to record stats on how many players will have it enabled.

With all the mods on the PC, I think if console crafting were "preferable" to the classic system someone would have already made a mod and we would see a proliferation of it. What it really boils down to is ease of use. Put a controller in someone's hand and menu-crafting feels easy and intuitive. With the precision of a keyboard and mouse that system would feel clunky.

So... like the forums? 20 million in sales and maybe a few hundred people who actively post.
While it is not 100% confirmed 4j studios recently tweeted a reply to a twitterer hinting they may be adding
classic crafting to the console versions. While I find it interesting, I also do not know if I can memorize all those
recipes.
What's your take?

I don't see the reason for adding the PC crafting system to the console version, optional or not. I think it's unnecessary.
Link RemovedWIP 128x 64x, SEUS support, Mod support in the pipeline TEKKIT, FTB, the more support the more mods!

in 4j's tweet regarding this, they do state "classic crafting option"

@_ANGRYBIRDS_ yes it will be the same style crafting as the pc where one must memorize the different ingrediants
to each item. As for new mobs coming in the new update, there is some possibility that we MIGHT see 1.8 features
if that does happen we may get the newer underwater temple plus guardians.
It also has a very good chance of being the update that brings in new fish. Not sure if those could be considered mobs.
For the most part and from what information is out there this will most likely just contain 1.7 features like the new
biomes.
