Pre-processor compilation makes working on software designed for multiple platforms much more streamlined and efficient. The Pre-processor compilations preps each bit of code for a specific platform after it is coded, but before it is compiled for that specific platform. This allows for 1 contiguous piece of code for all platforms that makes adjustments for the platform differences at compilation time. This would also be how (and mostly why) 4J announced that they would be releasing the updates to as close to simultaneously as possible... because it pretty much will be completed across all platforms and ready for cert testing at roughly the same time.
EXACTLY what? I didn't specify a date... I just said it shouldn't take 3-5 times as long as it would take to code on 1 console just because there was 5 console platforms that had to be coded for. To make the claim that it will is just because it is on 5 different platforms is erroneous at best and completely wrong at worst.
Yeah. Greg is a genius. He codes and stuff for a living so if there's someone here who knows what they're talking about it's him.
I appreciate the support, but to be more accurate, I code more for fun than I do for a living. Although I have formal education in Computer Science and even though there is some coding involved in my work, my work itself is largely technical support of various communications products (including, but not limited to, computer internet/network connectivity).
It is my dream to code for a living, and games design would be something that I would love to do... but for the moment, I have bills to pay and a steady job at the moment.
My coding is done largely on the side for the time being.

How ironic that I'm just a sophomore in high school and I'm taking that exact class next semester. Personally, there's so much I want to do that I'm not gonna settle on a single career. Before this world ends, I wish to build at least one rollercoaster, create at least one videogame, and delve into the world of genetics, just to name a few.

not to mention you played as the main character on Coach in the '90's

Before this world ends, I shall be known for building at least one rollercoaster, creating at least one videogame, crack the code of DNA and find the secrets of creating a species of dragons and uncover the code of DNA so that shapeshifting can be brought into real life! Mwaaahaaahaaahaaa!!! Also a bunch of other stuff that I don't feel like listing here.
Whaat? No Atomic Super-men with octangular-shaped bodies... that breathe fire.
december 14 is my birthday. if you read this entire thread youll see multiple references to a bet on when itll come out. i chose december 14. greg was talking about something completely different and it just looked like they were connected.
greg was making the point that just because its 3 updates in one doesnt mean itll take 3 times longer. they announced it a week or so ago and are already showing pictures. meaning theyve been working on it for a while behind the scenes.
in fact, its very possible that the reason previous updates have jumped several features and items ahead by as many as 4 versions is because they've been priming console for a big leap forward for a while.
just because theyre doing 3 updates at once doesnt mean they have to switch over 1.4 then 1.5 then 1.6. because a lot of the coding and features are already there(which probably has nothing to do with it) all they have to do is switch over 1.6 which has 1.4 and 1.5 features in it.
in past large updates, the time from announcement to pictures has been a few weeks to a month and from pictures to release about another month. let's say they've been working on it without announcing it until now. the official announcement was October 2, the first picture which MIGHT show 1.6 was posted October 22, the first picture which definitely shows 1.6 was posted October 24. following the usual pattern that puts release at late november to early december. much sooner than everyone else's unfounded, ingrateful and pessimistic claims of a spring 2015 release.
...EXACTLY what? December 14, 2014 Release Date I didn't specify a date... The person you defended did , I asked him for proof on why the date would be exactly 14/12/14...
I didn't defend anyone, you are mistaken, sir. Nor did I endorse any date whatsoever. My initial reply was directed entirely at josiahw79's comment that the update was definitely going to take 3-5 times longer because of his grossly fallacious statement: "but then when you add 3 more consoles in the mix (xbone,ps4,ps vita) and it's 3 updates in one it's obviously going to take a long time".
Ohh... my bad... I thought you were replying to me at first, I didn't realize that you were quoting Kaiju's date claim at that time, I thought he was just re-quoting me at the time. LOL I thought you were replying to me directly (or indirectly at me as the case may be)... I had to go back and re-read the original post you made that you were talking about... by the way, could you guys have put that date in a smaller font? I could barely ready it as it was... man... I totally missed that Kaiju even put a date in there in between our comments.
Common Sense.

Wait, when and where did I say that again?
no i picked it for the bet
when you quoted me i thought you were... sorry

LOL, I think that was Craig Nelson... not Greg Nelson.
Whaat? No Atomic Super-men with octangular-shaped bodies... that breathe fire.
But your middle initial is still "T." right?
For "The Man!"
Deleted my comment
Did you at least invent the Half Nelson?

I see you missed the point entirely.
-Oops you weren't talking to me lol
Actually your post was pretty...punny

You are entirely mistaken on that point.
