I just noticed that mining obsidian doesn't damage your pickaxe. I thought I noticed it a while back when I made an obsidian generator and mined several hundred blocks with an Efficiency V and Unbreaking III pickaxe and there was no visible damage to the pickaxe, but i ignored it since the pickaxe was enchanted, but just now I was playing my second survival world and turned a pool of lava into obsidian and mined it with an un-enchanted pickaxe. The entire pool was 62 blocks of obsidian, and my pickaxe still has full durability.
I'm pretty sure that this is not true. You likely just didn't mine enough obsidian to notice. An unenchanted diamond pickaxe should be able to mine 1562 blocks (of any type) before it breaks. Breaking only 62 blocks of obsidian will only wear out slightly less than 4% of the tools total durability.

oh i thought that durability was based on number of swings instead of number of blocks broken

Nope... durability is based on the number of effective uses (in the case of the pickaxe, it is the number of blocks broken):
From the Wiki: "A pickaxe is used to break stone based materials faster. When a block is broken using a pickaxe, the pickaxe takes 1 damage."
So basically... you could swing the pickaxe at a block and abort just before breaking the block as many times as you like and it won't incur a point of damage to the durability until it actually breaks a block.

I just find it amusing that breaking obsidian blocks incurs the exact same durability damage as when breaking: glass windows, dirt blocks, leaf blocks, sand blocks, spider webs, and wool blocks.
Very rare autosave bug: If you have track over a transparant block (like redstone lamps) with one air space below that block and are riding a minecart that is on this block when the game autosaves, then proceed to reload that save you will fall through the block suffocating in the redstone lamp.
Actually, this happens with other transparent blocks too (Not necessarily causing suffocation and death)... but saving on top of a half slab, I've noticed that when the game reloads, it reloads with me standing below the top of that half slab.
Although I haven't died from this yet...I sometimes use half slabs to cover over my irrigation channels, and when it happens, I get trapped through the half slab in the irrigation channel itself, and I'm stuck there until I mine my way out (breaking the half slab that I'm stuck in).
So far, it has only been a minor annoyance, but I'm wondering what would happen if I had a half slab floor over a deep pit or a pool of lava... saving the game in these areas could end up being quite deadly upon reloading the game.
Villagers don't "mate" and iron golems don't spawn anymore. Seriously I've made several worlds and added i believe 30 doors covered by wood with villagers but no baby villagers and no iron golems are spawning for me. Is this just my horrible luck or is this happening to anyone else?
Is the wood on top of the door getting daylight / direct sunlight? Since that's a requirement.
That said I havent been able to breed villagers yet myself either, I cured a couple of zombies and let those villagers roam about in my city (that wasn't build with villagers in mind), had to fix a couple of houses in order for them to be recognized and used by the villagers as houses. Then after working underground near that same city I surfaced only to find all my villagers gone. So next project is to build an actual villagers ready village.
It was in villages that spawned naturally as well from the last TU where I did get golems and all that just after TU16 and TU17 it stopped working altogether. I'll try to build another world and do every way possible see if it helps.
I'm not sure of the worlds, but the control and brightness issues should be able to be configured in the settings. The game doesn't load the options until a button is pressed after the auto-save warning, and in this case, the gamma is being dropped.
I think i remember reading about a similar issue with the HUD and hands dissappearing and i think they fixed it by resetting all options to default. can't remember where i read it but it's worth a try
I cant get villgers to breed ether have a villger farm set up with 4 villgers tons of doors and light sources behind doors and front still haven't got them to breed
Hey guys! Long time viewer, first time poster etc.
I'll do my best to explain this. Whenever I load up the game and enter 'Play Game' and the loading screen, I notice the screen goes ever so slightly darker, as opposed to lighter as it normally does, and shows up the list of worlds I have. Trouble is, I normally have about 4 worlds there, but 2 have disappeared.
But the big problem is when I load up my most recent world, the big issue is that I can't actually turn around. The left control stick works, but the right stick does nothing. Also, there's no HUD, my hands have disappeared and I can't use the left control stick to choose items when I open the inventory.
As you can see, it is quite the pickle. I've explained this as well as I can, so any help would be greatly appreciated!
I experienced this myself whenever I went to join another game several months ago...

^^^ I believe this was the fix to it, if I recall correctly.

I'm having some difficulty with villager breeding as well in my water world that had not villages spawn in it... I know the villagers are recognizing the houses/village as they are clearly going inside during the night and are going in and out during the day time. but I'm doing this in survival with converted zombie villagers and thus far, I only have Librarians and a Priest.
For those that are having issues and those that aren't:
Are the villagers converted zombie villagers?
Was the village built off of a spawned village or was the village player made?
Do you have any non-Farmer villagers? Do you see Breeding occur primarily with certain villager professions?
my villge is man made underground i had to dip in creative to get 4 villiger eggs one farmer one librarian one priest and one butcher. I flew around the map killed the rest of the villgers in the two villgers so now there's just my four left haven't had one breed yet.

When you say, 'man-made underground' village...
Do your villager houses, by any chance, have a visible path open to the the sky/sunlight within 4 blocks of each of your villager house doors? ...and have more than 15 village houses defined in this fashion?
Actually now that u said that no no sunlight I do have glow stone in the roof torches by the doors on above it in the back and 1 on the outside off each house gusse I need to remove the ceiling I tryed to do what etho did make a man cave.

You should be able to identify if you have a 'qualified' house if you can be reasonably sure that villagers will remain on one (specific) side of a door (reliably) during the night time cycle and will move in and out of the door during the day time cycle. I don't know if you can get away with using any transparent blocks (like slabs or stairs or glowstone) or not... as many transparent blocks will cut off view to the sunlight.... but it does require open access to a light source for the door to count as a qualified village house.

ok. i never saw the part saying it only takes damage when the block is broken. good to know though. learn something new every day.
