What we need is some skin creator app. Im tired of being limited to whatevers in the skin packs.
I know this would lose profit on the xbox marketplace but hear me out. What if there was a skin creator where you could pay to create a skin. It wouldn't be much , a dollar, dollar fifty no problem.I just think its time we could express ourselves in a whole different way. Anyone agree?

Im sorry to say this but you will keep waiting...
4J said they COULD add this if they wanted (and they do) but they haven´t yet do to legal issues.
Here is an example:
Lets say someone creates a Mario skin. Nintendo could see this and demand 4J for this even if 4J didn´t do the skin. 4J doesn´t wants any problems so they won´t add this "app".
Don´t get me wrong, personally, I would love to see this implemented but it just... won´t happen.

Yeah, the only way you are going to get skins is in the marketplace when 4J releases them. That's okay though. Now, if you only make your own without making mario, toad, whatever, then I could see it happening.
I still say it has more to do with the fact that skins are continuing revenue to fund all the free updates we get. Copyright isn't the issue; that hasn't come up with games like Soul Calibur V that allow for much closer representations (And more offensive content for that matter)
If this doesn't get Namco sued:
Then this wouldn't either:
Unless 4J tried to sell that particular skin to us without permission. Just as if Namco sold that outfit, in those colors, to us.
How does Mojang get around the legal issues for PC?
Mojang can make a skin editor because it's their own game, 4J Studios can't even if they wanted too. The reason is because Microsoft doesn't want to have copyright issues (Terms and Policies) and this is the reason why 4J Studios isn't adding in Books that you can write in because of Microsoft's Terms and Policies. *This also goes to Minecraft versions: Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Xbox One, PS Vita and any upcoming other versions.*
At the very most, we might have a specific type of skin creation or limited one...
Like maybe a skin creation where we can make our own "Steve" (FYI: We can't make mario or any character at all... Just make how we want Steve to be).
Another example would be something like if they did a "My Little Pony" skin pack release (Which I honestly believe they will eventually. Though am hoping for a Mash Pack more)... They can get permission from Hasbro then they can add a special option to that skin pack to allow the players make their own pony skin. (Since with something like that, they only need permission from ONE place rather than from EVERYTHING).
But a full blown skin creator where we can fully create our own skins? Remake Mario even or others? No. I can see that NEVER happening.
By basically saying, "Hey, these skins are made by our fans, not us" and distancing themselves from it.
So your telling me, that they can't state, ON THE APP, that neither 4j or Microsoft are responsible for any "Likenesses" to any fictional or non fictional characters. These creations are non profit fan-made??????? You know because, South Park does that. Robot Chicken does that. Soul Calibur and countless other custom creation games types do it. There's something 4J ISN'T doing that these other examples have.
The problem is not entirely because of people potentially making copyright infringing skins. There is also the issue of what happens when you join a world with a custom skin. Do all the players on it download your skin? Does it just default to Steve? Would we be given an option? Who pays for all the bandwidth? Who hosts the skins? I have no desire to be forced to download someone else's shoddy work in order to play with them.
I think it mostly do to the fact that a good % of the Minecrafters are young kids and your always gonna have one of those kids, a teenager or even an adult think thier funny and even cool and use skin creator and make crude, obscene, and offensive nude skins and decide to be a rude dude (a rude dude lol no idea) and be a server troll and like I said there are alot of young kids. as notch stated before, Minecraft consoles seem more family oriented and wasn't his style, he's a gamer/game designer lol and moved on to making more games and let jeb and 4j do thier thing. More or Less it's because of that 1 Rude Dude with his Neked Steve trolling on the Family/Kids Servers. Dang that Rude Dude lol.

the copyright bs is just an excuse guys, only reason the skin generator and the block skin creator wont ever happen is bc people would stop buying all of mojangs crappy paint job packs after buying the creator packs. So the greed says no and uses the copyright to try to not sound so obviously greedy. 12 million copies and still not enough money for them to give the fans what they want, jeez. If the copyright thing was an actuality then this game could not exist at all. How many builds have you seen that are copyrighted images/places/pixel art etc. But its illegal if the build that represents a copyrighted image is tiny and walks around? BS
If they ever said Copyright, they were either lying or just wrong. Every other game with deep customization, including the PC Minecraft, has not had a problem with it, and neither would 4J.
The ONLY real reasons are either simply they are depending on skin packs for continuing revenue- which is NOT greed. Think about it, sure, they've sold a lot of copies but they also are constantly working on updates that we get for free. They have bills to pay too and they deserve to make a profit. Compare Minecraft to World of Tanks' massive premium prices or any MMO, like Elder Scrolls Online, with a $60 dollar entry fee and 15 bucks a month to keep playing. Skin and Texture packs are what, a couple dollars every few months on top of a $20 dollar game with regular, free content updates? Yeah, REAL greedy there alright. (Sarcasm, of course)
Or there is the technical limitation of how to get your skin to display on the screens of everybody else. I don't believe in this one, as every other game that has a built in customizer manages to do exactly that.
Simple answer... If you could make your skins then you wouldn't really buy any would you?
Gaming = Business
Business = Money
The best solution I've seen that would allow people to create skins and allow Microsoft to still make money off DLC was allowing people to mix and match skins they've purchased from the DLC. Like swapping the arms, legs, torso, and head of a character with all the different sections on the skins people have bought. That sounded like a reasonable solution.
If I could have my ideal setup for skins, we would have a creator built in. And then, 4J could periodically release "Part libraries"- new hairs, arms, legs, accessories, body shapes and such, that we could snap onto the basic shape and color ourselves. Basically taking the Character Creation from Soul Calibur and making it blocky I guess.
Personally, I'm glad there isn't a custom skin creator. I would rather not deal with immature idiots who think it's funny to run around as giant genitalia. That, or something offensive or racist. How many people do you think would immediately make a Hitler skin? I'm sure all of those things would violate Microsoft's terms of service. Just look at the disaster that was the Black Ops emblem creator.
Sure, I would love to potentially download skins that I want instead of asking for them (since I'm not creative enough to make them myself.) While I think 4J should make a skin pack or two for the Avatar TV shows, I doubt they will.
When it comes right down to it, I'm happy with the current system. Cheap skin packs with over 40 skins each, cheap texture packs that get updated along with the game itself and free content updates. What's not to love? Game development is a business after all and businesses need money. More money for 4J means a better game for us!
