Just started a brand new survival island. Got to nether, and have been exploring forever. Cannot find a nether fortress anywhere. Isn't it supposed to force spawn them now?
So the question is, is it possible they are still not spawning?
or
is it possibly it is so buried that I have to dig until I find it? with a note on this one, most of the middle of my tiny nether is wide open in the middle so it would have to be near the borders, and doesn't it usually spawn with pillars all the way down to bottom lava layer?
Edit: (found it)
Well I did as suggested, and did a duplicate on creative, even though I really didn't want to, and sure enough it does exist. It is buried, and I mean buried in there really good. Only one leg/pillar, whatever you want to call them, makes it to the lava level but in such an obscure place even in creative it was difficult to find.
The funny part of it all is that in all actuality, after finding where I teleported in on my survival world the nether fortress, while buried and actually quite big, is only 20 or so blocks away from where I teleported in on the survival world.
I haven't played since the update happened yet, but isn't there also a "reset nether" option incase you can't find one?

"Only the trees which you know are not trees for food you may destroy and cut down, to build siegeworks against the city that makes war with you, until it is subdued." (Deuteronomy 20:20 NKJV)
It is entirely possible that it is completely buried in Netherrack. I once had a Nether where the entire Fortress was buried inside Netherrack and it took me days to find it. Not a single piece of it was visible until I dug it out.
I suggest loading the same seed in Creative, the go blasting or digging around the Nether until you find. then you can go back to your survival world and go straight to it.

Wait, can't this nether trick be used cheaply to keep respawning the nether until it's perfect, or if you run out of easy glowstone >.> Kinda like the overuse of bonus chests...
But yeah, creative or resetting the nether. Your choice.
[and a tip I found out: if the nether portal is destroyed somehow (my lil bro was running from ghasts... but my nether portal landed up on top and near the edge of a huge nether fortress, and ghasts...), use another account just to respawn the nether portal. Actually creates another one too]

Currently playing the Xbox 360 version, this amazing seed
I need ta write something better...
It won't actually change your Nether. Your nether is pretty much specific to your seed. I reset my TU8 Nether and it was pretty much the same thing. The primary purpose of the "Reset Nether" function is to make it so pre-Fortress Nethers can be reset in that seed so that the Fortress will spawn.
If you reset a TU8 - TU9 Nether it'll basically be the same Nether (Except everything will have respawned.
Yes indeed resetting the nether will not generate him a nether fortress if it is already a new map. You can now find netherwart on soulsand (if yours is TU8 then do a reset) However unless I am mistaken that wont help with getting Blazes to spawn in decent numbers as spawners are only in the fortresses.

Go figure, right?
Same thing happened to me. My friend and I walked by out buried Nether Fortress probably a dozen times before we finally found it.
maybe an xp farm for those who play on peaceful? (i have a survival build map where i'd use that trick, just to keep myself stocked in both fortune 3, and silk touch picks, so i can build without needing to worry about a creeper sneaking up on me, and i can just keep collecting the materials i need.)
(btw, love the new avatar MG... i get the feeling you feel like that when reading all the redundant threads on here)
Well in that case there are some interesting fortresses as I have when exploring random seeds come across nether's with not a thing touching the lava. Very odd looking by the way all hanging from the ceiling or walls and the lava pool being as regular as it was, but I thought the fortresses all grew down to the lava.

yes, but it even says in the changelog that it is, "handy for older saves without a nether fortress."

Straight from the change log.

That would be a massive waste of time to break the spawner, exit, reset the nether and repeat.
