If I could do it all over I would NOT have bought this game until it was complete. The TU9 update just came out and I play a few hours but just can not get into a map building that I know I will delete on the next update. No I have no interest in not exploring part of the world. Exploring the world is one of the first things I do. Honestly when I bought the game it never even occured to me that someone would sell a game that was so incomplete.
Just very disappointing overall. If someone could just tell me "this date" will be the end of all updates a bug fixes then I would mark my calender to start playing then. Currently I only play enough to be familiar with new stuff but at this rate will be so burnt out on minecraft (irritating updates) I may not even bother messing with it when it's complete.
I would have been happier with my purchase if the game had been sold complete with less stuff then a year or so later I would have paid for a new game with everything.
But the updates are the reason I don't play and I would otherwise like the game.
I expect there to be some bug issues with new games but the incompleteness of the entire project is irritating.
Maybe a warning label the next time that tells you "hey buy this game so we can mess up your maps in a month"
You could, of course, just set it aside until it is "complete" and that would be the same effect as not buying it until it was "complete." I'm not sure "complete" can possibly be defined with this game, since Mojang continue to keep changing the original of it even as we speak.

I'm in my 40's and only bought an xbox about 3 or 4 years ago. Never did gaming before that outside of things like chess. I only buy about one game a year and am pretty much retired so I have a lot of time on my hands. Outside of working out or collecting rent and stuff I don't do much time wise. So i will sometimes game for hours every day. When a new game comes out I ussually play 24 hoursw straight the first day. So if I was to just set it aside I may as well just find another hobby and dump the xbox altogether. One reason I started video gaming is the amount of hours I'm waiting for people so show up and pay rent when it's due.
I have had this game since day 1 when it was available and have always enjoyed playing it regardless of it not being complete. If I waited to it was complete I would have missed out on all of those months of fun. So my answer is a big NO to if completeness is an issue.

I have for all the biome updates, i purposely don't go too crazy when it comes to building stuff until I know all the biomes have been included. Once Jungles come out, I will then get very serious with the seed I pick. This update I won't need to start a new world though since there isn't anything that i want that requires a new seed.
If you would have waited for the game to be complete before you bought it, you never would have bought it. Minecraft on the PC has been update since it release in 2009. The Xbox 360 Edition was complete when it was released on May 9th 2012.
Was The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim not released as a complete game because content keeps getting added to it? Just because content is being added for free doesn't mean the game is incomplete. If the Xbox 360 Edition would have stayed what it was when it released, that would have been fine because it was a complete game at that point.

I'm just really saying that if you had waited for the game to be "complete," you wouldn't be playing it yet anyway... same effect really as setting it aside. True, you may not have bought the Xbox yet; and maybe it would have been better to wait then until the next gen console came out and then bought that one. Only you can decide that for yourself.
For me, we had my son's Xbox on hand, but it really wasn't being played much anymore by him or by me. When we bought Minecraft, it revived my interest in video gaming and, subsequently, his. He still doesn't play Minecraft at all, but he has begun to play some of his other video games again and has purchased a couple of newer ones recently... and other family members and friends have started to become interested as well. It has given us lots of hours of enjoyable family discussions on things like programming, bug testing, etc.... along with many hours of enjoyable time playing the game. So, even though the game is "incomplete," I really don't regret these past months of family time caused by it.
However, I can't really say that I prefer continually updating over not updating a game in principle... and that's why I checked "other."
You don't have to update. You're given a choice to update or not.
You could "freeze" the game at this point and consider it "complete".
All those who do massive builds know by now that they're going to loose them and have to start over. The silver lining is that they can do it again, but much better and usually faster.
Isn't the "building" the point and the fun part?
i actually really like how this game evolves through updates.
this is one of my favourite features of minecraft.
most other devs will release a title, bugfix it, charge you for DLC then repeat the cycle with a sequel.
to me, the array of new features they add with updates make each new version feel like you've just paid for some kind of DLC addon type thing.
case in point: in oblivion, you actually PAY FOR HORSE ARMOR.
also, if you were to consider the features of this game at release and compare that to the features we have now, it feels kinda like we've got some next generation successor to the original release.
so yeah, i really like this style of game development... it also allows the developers to really get some feedback on what their community likes and doesn't like about the game.
I wish people that don't like it the way it is just to not play and stop whining about it. Is it unplayable now? No. The update JUST came out and here is another whine post.

How can you complain about this? I think the only reason why someone wouldn't like updates is because it's unfamiliar. It's something that is uncommon in console gaming. But how can continual development be a bad thing. If you bought a car, and the dealership would have a mechanic install new and better parts every once in awhile, would you complain? I bet you wouldn't even have a problem with small issues that arise. You would wait until they send your car to be repaired. (bugfix patch) There are going to be problems, this is to be expected, but the bottom line is we're getting free stuff. And the game itself is always evolving, this is why a lot of indie games end up more well-developed than a lot of triple A titles. Minecraft will eventually be a complete game, but I don't think it will be too soon.

As for entertainment value the game is cheap. I would prefer buying the newest version every year for 20 bucks and have maps i could build on for a year at leisure. I use to work on large construction projects that would take 2 to 4 years on one site so having a consistent map i can play for a year is to me a minimum. I want to build these big projects covering the map in survival on hard but hate the updates adding new stuff that makes my map obsolete.

This is going to sound crazy, but you can already do that for free. Don't download the update for a year.
i am fine with the game updateing over time but the updates take too long and contain too little. i was looking forward for tu9 because of jungles but then it took ages to come out and it didnt even have jungles.
On your first point, that is your opinion and I don't share it, but you're obviously welcome to express it. As far as jungles are concerned, 4J never said in any capacity anywhere that jungles would be included in TU9. On the contrary, they said several times via twitter that jungles would be coming in a LATER update. If someone told you that TU9 was going to contain jungles, that someone was relying too heavily on rumor and speculation. I personally am very much eagerly anticipating jungles, but it's better not to get your hopes up based off of rumors, when expectations can often lead to disappointments.

I could also still be listening to records but when new stuff is out I want to take advantage of it. Call of duty doesn't sell two maps with a couple of guns while they work on more of it. They sell a complete game. Sure there are some issues that need a bug fix but overall it's the same and when new stuff comes out like a map pack it doesn't adversly affect existing stuff.

Using Copy and Paste of Duty as an example of a complete game is a bad example.
Minecraft is different obviously. If you don't like it, don't play it. I don't see the point in playing it only to continue whining about it. Or, go get the PC version. Though it updates even faster than the Xbox 360 Edition and with a larger number of things.

Yes... They release "brand new" games, that are more or less a small update that they decided to make some money off of. A map pack will not effect existing content because it is not being altered, it is merely an add-on. 4J are changing pieces of the game itself to improve the overall experience. Call of Duty just throws the same old game at you, and a few extra maps, for a fee of course.
