I have been wondering how to edit the base file and skins in Minecraft Windows 10 edition. I already got in to the windowsapps file, but once i get to the Minecraft windows 10 file and try to edit the skins it wont work because i don't have admin permission to do so.
I changed the settings in properties to allow myself to edit but no result. It keeps failing. Is there any tips on how to edit the base + skinpacks file?
Win10 is an Windows App, not a application. Totally different animal. You can't mess with the game files like you can with the java version. I'd forget trying to "edit the base files".
The reason i wanted to do this is because i just wanted to edit the skins on the game so i can add my own custom skins instead of the default skins like Steve or Jane.
If you want a different skin for your character in game then you can just import it via in game. If you want the default alex and steve skins to be different, then you are sadly out of luck. Mojang removed the ability to change the look of the default skins when capes fully came out. For some reason, they don't want ppl to use custom skins with capes.

Are you trying to make a resource pack, addon, or trying to reprogram the game?
Did you copy those files to another location before editing?
Edit: As I'm not sure what exactly you're asking, this tutorial may be helpful (or it may not be!).

However, you can make your own resource packs, and even your own skins (https://support.xbox.com/en-US/games/game-titles/custom-skins-minecraft-windows-10-edition) to add to the game.
(They're not called "add-ons" for nothing). In other words, you can add to the game's files, you can't change the game files.
Alright, thanks for the advice.

But thanks for letting me know.
