I just downloaded win10 from the appstore about an hour ago. Been trying to connect to multiplayer PE on my network. I understand that 0.14.0 just came out today for PE, could this be required so I don't get "outdated server"? Seems a bit quick for a rollout. Thanks for any suggestions.
Tried searching for "outdated server", don't see any information.
"Can I play online with other people on Windows 10? Or on different devices?
You can play online and with other people running Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition Beta who are on the same network as you. You'll also be able to play with Pocket Edition (for iOS, Android, and Windows Phone) players in a future update."
Just got the same error when trying to connect to a MCPE server that had worked fine just yesterday
Im guessing its likely something to do with the update to MCPE to 0.14.0 that rolled out last night(?), while we only upgraded to 0.13.2. I suspect they have nerfed the connection we were once able to share (albeit, a connection which we weren't really supposed to be able to do in the first place).
Be interesting to see what happens now and will be watching this closely..
Well, Amazon just sent me an update to 0.13.2. I then tried to connect with our current PE game. Success! I'm guessing they realize that MCWIN10 isolation by not having cross compatibility with PE OR PC would spell disaster. I am utterly astonished with Amazon's timing here. They're usually way behind.
Actually, 14.0 hasn't been released yet. See the "News" page. It's a "test" phase only, android only.
However, like last time, the wait for 14.0 shouldn't be long. (My guess is they'll release it next week. It'll be a big update, well worth the wait).
To the OP: IF (huge if) "servers" ever become an option, you'll have to change your server with every (automatic) update. Even PC servers are for specific versions. (We already have Live, and Realms is coming, so do you really "need" to have your own server?)

Thanks for the info, Geno.
