But, I think the map should have it's own action. Instead of swinging it like a weapon when the right trigger is held, have the map zoom in to take up more of the screen while simultaneously hiding the HUD. This way it can still be held in your hand while exploring.

I'd rather just have the HUD etc just disappear whenever it's selected to be looked at then reappear when it's not selected.
If I may, you can make the HUD smaller by going it to the settings and fooling around a bit. I found that it does help a lot and you can even change the size in splitscreen as well. I have read some of these ideas and I do really like them. I especially enjoy the idea of having the HUD pop up only when in use, suggested by Junokaii

It only disappearing from me was only applying when you select the map. But yeah why not step it up a bit and have it just disappear altogether unless you use it?
Or.. Just have it disappear when you pull out the map. that would solve everything.
