Yo yo yo! Welcome to the semi-official Redstone HQ, a place where the community can share, provide help on, and try out other people's "redstone" mechanisms, along with weird bugs and tricks in PE. No, this is NOT a clan, just an awesome page for the uber-nerds to chill out and discuss redstone stuff in PE Blame peer pressure. it is now becoming a clan XD. Now, newbs "out of the water", let's get this straight, just in case we get any "OOH IS THERE REDSTONE" kind of spam, I’ll reference this little quote here: THERE IS NO REDSTONE IN PE, BUT THERE ARE MECHANISMS THAT WORK LIKE IT. Now that that is out of the way, we can get started!

tutorials, FAQ’s, and stuff - be warned, this is long!
What you'll need:
· an inventory editor, preferably one that is on your own phone (not on the PC, as transfering the level.dat file and stuff is ANNOYING!) such as iMCPEdit and PIE PRO (iMCPEdit is available via a jailbroken repo: cydia.myrepospace.com/siris, and PIE PRO is available on the Android Market)
· Some knowledge on how updating chunks works, and other tidbits of info (if you don't know, don't worry, I'll explain below!)
· MCPE, obviously.
Once you've got all that, you're almost set!
The Basics
So, young traveler, you may (no, you ARE) asking, "Wait! how can there be redstone in MCPE? Johan said there will be no redstone for AGES!" Alas, you have much to learn. Naturally, there IS way around this problem. or how else would this thread exist? To begin, padawan, here is the basic rundown. (the stuff starts getting nerdy here!) In any level editor (inventory editor), there is the option to add "flowing water" or "stationary water", and likewise, "stationary lava" and "flowing lava". You will most likely be able to find them on a drop down list, however, if you want to save time, here are the ID's to these items. (Flowing lava , however is GENERALLY not used, as it can be unwieldy and hard to manipulate.)
Flowing water: ID#8, Hex 8 (don't worry about the hex, it's something modders use, so just forget it exists)
Stationary water: ID#9, Hex 9
Flowing lava: ID#10, Hex A
Stationary lava: ID#11, Hex B.
Got that? if so, good! if not, you're going to be utterly confused beyond this point, and no offense, reccomend you walk away, as you'll be UTTERLY confused. Oh, and you'll also need (at least one of) these blocks:
Redstone Ore: ID#73,Hex 49
Furnace: ID#61, Hex 3D
Active Furnace ID#62, Hex 3E
OR trapdoors, you obviously don't need an ID for that though XD
random building material, like sand or dirt
done with that, too! ok, let's get started! UPDATING CHUNKS:THE BASICS
So, when you place down a block of (flowing) water, it will spread in all directions it can for up to 7 blocks, before the flow cuts off. however, stationary water is, to say the least, ODD. it stays still, and will remain still, unless prompted by something else (in which case, the water will begin to flow). That something else can be either the removal of an adjacent block, the placing of a block (in an adjacent square, mind you), or the activation of any block that can change properties (the redstone ORE, or the Furnace), ALL as long the activation/placement/whatever is happening ADJACENT to the stationary water (or for that matter, lava) that you wish to create a source for. So yeah. THAT is the most important thing to know, pretty much. once you understand that, you should be fine. Now, there is a term for this behaviour, and we call it updating chunks. Remember that, you'll need to know this term alot.
*sidenote: opening/closing a trapdoor also does the trick, as long as it is adjacent. THE NEXT STEP
As i was saying, when you create a source of water, it will flow. Now, combine that with the updating of chunks, and you'll get "device" that creates a flow of water when you activate (start punching) redstone ore adjacent to it, or turn on a furnace. if you make a "pipe" of water, you can do even more, as you now have a controlled "input - output" device, input being the activation of ore, furnace or block movement, the output being a water source that you can control. NOW, BEFORE WE MOVE ON: once a block of stationary water has been turned into flowing water, it cannot be undone. Still with me? good!
now, to lengthen the source of water (make it go FARTHER), we can do two things, each with its pros and cons. Below is both options.
A.) at the seventh block of water, dig down one block, and let the water flow (essentially, just tunnel), just one block down.
Pros: easy to fix if you mess up, as all you have to do is destroy the original source block.
Cons: if you want a long source that does not eventually get lower, and lower, and lower, this can be a bit unwieldy.
B.) Eight blocks away, place another stationary water block. When source A flows and activates B (the stationary block) it will update source B, and B will continue its own path.
Pros: Faster, and doesn't require any drop in the level of water.
Cons: Hard to clean up if you mess up, as you have multiple source blocks to clean up now. SO, WHERE DOES THIS ALL LEAD UP TO!
Well, that's where the fun begins! It's up to you to decide what this water (or lava) will do! To give you some help, here are some ideas:
· use it to open/shut a trapdoor! (there is a glitch where if a trapdoor is open and an adjacent block (which can be the water, flowing or non) is destroyed, it will close!
· Use it to create passages which can't be traversed unless water is activated! (see for help on that one)
Be creative! There's a whole world full of options of what you can do with this info in mind! You can combine these different mechanisms, too, to form Rube Goldberg Machines that do cool stuff! ADDITIONAL HELP:

Here are some pro tips and stuff, and also FAQ about some of the more confusing elements of this whole thingy. OPENING IRON DOORS! IMPOSSIBRU!
Well, technically no. but it's very confusing and I myself am a bit unsure on how to do it as of 0.5.0. However, in previous versions of MCPE, similar to trapdoors, if an iron door whose hinges were to the right had a block adjacent to it be removed (again, this could be water), the door would open. this was because the doors that you could give yourself in previous versions (the item form, ID#330) were really bugged out and strange. but yeah. I'm bugging ChimeraTech into giving me the secret to creating those bugged doors in 5.0. Don't worry, We'll get them somehow.
INSTANT/UPWARD SIGNALS
What is this Gypsy magic, you ask! *Chimera Technologies, actually! well, Anyways, It's quite easy to make a signal travel in every direction (but down) instantly! How this works: (you'll need blocks, signs - ID 323, and an output) Place a sign onto a block. Place a sign on that sign. continue in any direction, as long as the signs are connected (as in, you placed the sign ON the other one). once you're done, place output. When you break the block, all the signs attached (the ones we just placed) dissapear. chunks next to output update, stuff happens. How to make this instant, no block breaking? start the sign chain with a ladder instead, and make the chaining block a dirt block,a nd place a piece of something above it. use a hoe on it, and the ladder will break, along with signs. dirt will stay as dirt, for some odd reason
BUD switches, Melon bombs, and more!
Here, I'll cover how placing, breaking and doing other things to blocks can cause some really cool stuff! Well, you may ask, what is a BUD? a BUD is a Block Update Detector or in our case, the thing we're updating/ the thing we're updating it with. So, placing a block next to a BUD (the stationary block, or glitchy whatever) the update will occur. Sound familiar? well, it is. Now, you may ask, how does a BUD relate to melon bombing? here. Imagine it like this. Stalk next to dirt. melon grows on dirt! now, what does that melon do? it updates anything adjacent to the dirt, in this case, lava. lava flows, and gets close to TNT... patch that 500 ISE mod... MELON BOMBS! anyways, thats just a coupla things you can do with ID 11 and 9 so, have fun!
Trapdoor Bug
when a block underneath a trapdoor breaks, it closes. trapdoors cause block updates when activated. water can be used to close trapdoor. See what I'm hinting at?
Repeaters
Another way to extend signals, if you're too lazy to use darned signs. place another stationary block 8 or so away, and get a FREE block update! to put it simply, the block of water activates, flows. travels 7 blocks. when edge of old signal reaches new one... block update. Bam. it'll go for another 8 blocks. you can extend this x blocks (x being an indefinite #)

Iron door replacement by RUS.
This is an awesome way to get around the iron door bug being fixed. It relies on a water flow from above that is activated and thus creates a flow downwards from a hole at the top. Ok, sorry, but this is hard to explain. Well, here’s my video on how to build/use this mechanism, that easily explains how this thingy works.

Passcode powered door by RUS: warning, the iron door trick no longer works
This is a cool little one digit passcode lock that I invented that either kills or allows the intruder in, based on if they know the password. This one is VERY hard to explain, so I’ll just link the several videos I did on it here.

i have been using stuff like this all the time for my maps! i have a super code lock it has 8 redstone ores and only three of them work. Obviously that would be to easy considering there is three so i made it impossible to pass through without punching them in a specific order and im making a drawbridge too!!! it involves retextured cacti * hint hint* i also have water elevators lava death trap and also if you get the wrong answer to a question you blow up punching a wrong ore that will blow up the whole town is not a good thing. So for all who might play my map one day ( pay attention to the details

cool, i see what you're getting at. one point that my buddy chimera made: you could do an inverter (what i call the lava-water reaction) and hook it up to some reeds? i mean reeds will break if the water dissapears, and you can place them as high as you want. if they break, they tehn update the chunks.
also, can you leave a DL link for your trapdoor ^ current and your mega tnt cannon? would like to see how/what they do.

*sidenote: opening/closing a trapdoor also does the trick, as long as it is adjacent.
THE NEXT STEP
As i was saying, when you create a source of water, it will flow. Now, combine that with the updating of chunks, and you'll get "device" that creates a flow of water when you activate (start punching) redstone ore adjacent to it, or turn on a furnace. if you make a "pipe" of water, you can do even more, as you now have a controlled "input - output" device, input being the activation of ore, furnace or block movement, the output being a water source that you can control. NOW, BEFORE WE MOVE ON: once a block of stationary water has been turned into flowing water, it cannot be undone. Still with me? good!
now, to lengthen the source of water (make it go FARTHER), we can do two things, each with its pros and cons. Below is both options.
A.) at the seventh block of water, dig down one block, and let the water flow (essentially, just tunnel), just one block down.
Pros: easy to fix if you mess up, as all you have to do is destroy the original source block.
Cons: if you want a long source that does not eventually get lower, and lower, and lower, this can be a bit unwieldy.
B.) Eight blocks away, place another stationary water block. When source A flows and activates B (the stationary block) it will update source B, and B will continue its own path.
Pros: Faster, and doesn't require any drop in the level of water.
Cons: Hard to clean up if you mess up, as you have multiple source blocks to clean up now.
SO, WHERE DOES THIS ALL LEAD UP TO!
Well, that's where the fun begins! It's up to you to decide what this water (or lava) will do! To give you some help, here are some ideas:

Here are some pro tips and stuff, and also FAQ about some of the more confusing elements of this whole thingy.
OPENING IRON DOORS! IMPOSSIBRU!
Well, technically no. but it's very confusing and I myself am a bit unsure on how to do it as of 0.5.0. However, in previous versions of MCPE, similar to trapdoors, if an iron door whose hinges were to the right had a block adjacent to it be removed (again, this could be water), the door would open. this was because the doors that you could give yourself in previous versions (the item form, ID#330) were really bugged out and strange. but yeah. I'm bugging ChimeraTech into giving me the secret to creating those bugged doors in 5.0. Don't worry, We'll get them somehow.
INSTANT/UPWARD SIGNALS
What is this Gypsy magic, you ask! *Chimera Technologies, actually! well, Anyways, It's quite easy to make a signal travel in every direction (but down) instantly! How this works: (you'll need blocks, signs - ID 323, and an output) Place a sign onto a block. Place a sign on that sign. continue in any direction, as long as the signs are connected (as in, you placed the sign ON the other one). once you're done, place output. When you break the block, all the signs attached (the ones we just placed) dissapear. chunks next to output update, stuff happens. How to make this instant, no block breaking? start the sign chain with a ladder instead, and make the chaining block a dirt block,a nd place a piece of something above it. use a hoe on it, and the ladder will break, along with signs. dirt will stay as dirt, for some odd reason
BUD switches, Melon bombs, and more!
Here, I'll cover how placing, breaking and doing other things to blocks can cause some really cool stuff! Well, you may ask, what is a BUD? a BUD is a Block Update Detector or in our case, the thing we're updating/ the thing we're updating it with. So, placing a block next to a BUD (the stationary block, or glitchy whatever) the update will occur. Sound familiar? well, it is. Now, you may ask, how does a BUD relate to melon bombing? here. Imagine it like this. Stalk next to dirt. melon grows on dirt! now, what does that melon do? it updates anything adjacent to the dirt, in this case, lava. lava flows, and gets close to TNT... patch that 500 ISE mod... MELON BOMBS! anyways, thats just a coupla things you can do with ID 11 and 9 so, have fun!
Trapdoor Bug
when a block underneath a trapdoor breaks, it closes. trapdoors cause block updates when activated. water can be used to close trapdoor. See what I'm hinting at?
Repeaters
Another way to extend signals, if you're too lazy to use darned signs. place another stationary block 8 or so away, and get a FREE block update! to put it simply, the block of water activates, flows. travels 7 blocks. when edge of old signal reaches new one... block update. Bam. it'll go for another 8 blocks. you can extend this x blocks (x being an indefinite #)

Melons... they want to destroy the world. Just kidding. But with this new breakthrough, they can deal some pretty large damage. So, most plants grow, spread, or change block type. this causes a chunk update. See where I'm going? Mushrooms, wheat, and melons all work fine

Now, TBH, he wasn't the first. Ok, now that that's out of the way, here's some interesting info: TRAPDOORS CAN ACTIVATE STATIONARY LIQUIDS!!! I will add a video soon! He also mentioned some cryptic sayings about fences and tnt , but I'm still a bit confused on that. Will add it when I understand plain English again.

This is an awesome way to get around the iron door bug being fixed. It relies on a water flow from above that is activated and thus creates a flow downwards from a hole at the top. Ok, sorry, but this is hard to explain. Well, here’s my video on how to build/use this mechanism, that easily explains how this thingy works.

This is a cool little one digit passcode lock that I invented that either kills or allows the intruder in, based on if they know the password. This one is VERY hard to explain, so I’ll just link the several videos I did on it here.
