Hey guys, I have this really annoying error, and It's been happening for 3 days! It started on July 5 somewhere in the afternoon, I was going to play on my buddy's server and play a map. I clicked on her server and clicked 'Join Server' it started to log me in there but then suddenly the screen freezes for a good 5 seconds and it says this error.
I thought there was something wrong with her server, so then I tried going on other servers, and it kept having the same error! The only server I could join was mine and a Hamachi server, the rest aren't working, and I would really want to play SMP
For anyone who asks, I have purchased Minecraft, I have tried turning my router off and then back on, I tried to reinstall Minecraft again, still no luck. I need help!
If you can help me, I greatly appreciate it, thank you so much for reading!
There was a server crash not long ago that took out a major backend server. They had to migrate it over to a new instances, and the IP addressed for it changed..... Since then, DNS has been majorly delayed with the updates (waaay longer then it should take), so many users on ISP managed DNS servers are not seeing the new address.
You can work around this by either editing the host file or switching to an public DNS server (like google, or opendns).
The one caveat with the host file is the change is hard set. if you forget its there, it'll cause problems if the MC server need another IP change.

Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc Open the host file using notepad, and the following line to the end
184.73.223.40 session.minecraft.net
Save it, reboot, and test it out.
Hey thanks, it worked! But, I needed to use Save As and not Save, I had this bug when I clicked on 'Save' so I searched on Youtube on how to do it, and luckily it worked out Thank you so much for your help though!
