I want to host a small server, max of maybe 6-8 people (but probably only two of us will be on it originally). I'm not a very experienced Minecraft server hoster, I've used hamachi in the past but I've realized that it's not always the best way to do it. I only have one computer I have access to which can play the game, I know hosting the game and playing on the same computer makes it slow and I don't want that. So I have a few options.
I own a bluehost account with hosting and a website, I'd love to see this be able to work but from what I've read it's probably not possible to host a minecraft server using this.
I do have a somewhat crappy old laptop that I could run the server on but I don't know if that'd work very well.
Basically what I'm looking for is how best do I host a server so that it's fast, stays up 24/7 and is easy to manage. Any help at all would be tremendously appreciated! Thank you!
If I'm interested in hosting on an old laptop, how might I do it to get the best performance available? And avoid information losses, crashes, and what not.
