Ok i flushed my DNS and no difference can be noted, when I go to another router it runs fine, but at my home router it crashes me out of the server, followed by skype call crashing for 30 sec to a miute..... im pretty mad considering ive had to deal with this problem for over 10 months -.-

Well I can confirm that deleting the playername.dat file solved the problem. Just had to wait for the admin to get off work so I could test it out. Looks like he gave himself a glitched or invalid item ID: Wireless Map, which caused the server to crash.
So for anyone else having this issue just log in to your server via console or FTP and browse to: world/players/ and delete the .dat file corresponding to your username. This will also delete all your inventory and achievements but at least you will be able to play again.
Will it also destroy your house/all the stuff in the boxes in your house? Or just your inventory?
well I am in the same boat. if i host a server people can connect no problem, but if i join our server i have the same issue as everybody else here. now if i join a complete different server everything is good. so it may be the server hosts issue
I recently started having the issues described by OP on my Macbook using tekkit. The server I try to connect to is one I host on my desktop not even 5 feet away from the Macbook. I have run the connection through hamachi, my router and an AD hoc network hosted by the desktop. Sadly the two could not connect through AD hoc so I could not definitively eliminate the ISP or the router. This happens on multiple accounts, even with empty inventories, so deleting character files does no good. Java is updated on both machines. I have even tried allowing offline mode to skip by the Mojang authentication. So far that seems to be doing it for me, but it may just be prolonging the inevitable. For small server owners this is a potential fix but for those getting issues on bigger servers or on servers where there is a likely hood of unwanted company then you're going to have to figure out other means.
So far what I can deduce(via my fix) is that when this comes up seems to be a connection issues between that computer and the Mojang authentication server. Though cause and fix dose seem to vary from user to user. Just read through and find what works for you I guess.
Will post results and continue to bump thread as necessary.
I believe this is caused by the auth servers having a socket error, 'java' saying the software 'net' saying network related 'socket timeout exception' saying that the servers timed out due to having a lack of communication 'read time out' is saying the server/host/packets aren't being read by the server/host/auth correctly due to the lack of transfer, possibly caused by the ISP/router and a very small chance, but it might be caused by a port error. I also had this problem back in April and a few months afterwards, though, it fixed itself I think. I am not sure how to fix this, but after we got a new ISP the problem was gone. I hope this helped, and it understandable :3

P.S: Sorry for the long run-on sentence, I hope no grammer nazi's come to correct it
I followed what some other had suggested and requested the admin of my server to delete my player file (playername.dat) and afterwards I was able to play.
My guess as to why it didn't work (at least for me) is because before this error I had been banned from my server back in July 2011 then when I was unbanned a few days ago, when I logged in I still had my inventory from a year ago, So I think with all the game updates that happend between July 2011 and Oct 2012 my player file became outdated and would explain why it would be a server issue only with this server and effecting only me.
Just delete your playername.dat from the players folder and then when you log in next it will read you as a new player and create a new file thus fixing this problem!!!!!
Okay, my minecraft worked two days ago, and now i get this error: internal exception: java.net.sockettimeoutexception: read time out
i tried the ipconfig/flushdns, and it didnt work.
I have no idea of how to delete my playername.dat from my flayersfolder, I dont know what and where my playersfolder is. please help
I had this error a long time ago, and i watched a youtubevideo which worked; I had to put a new line of text in a folder in my windows-file on my computer. And now, when the new version 1.4 came out, minecraft stopped working (again) and the new tipp was to erase that line of text, so i did that and minecraft started working. this was about 5 days ago, and minecreaft worked for about 3 days, and now it's broken again... What do i do now?

No need to link it, I have read in several threads that the fix for the older version (the video I watched, where you add a line of text) is creating new errors in the new update and that you should all delete that line =(
Still having this issue tho, I ant to jon this server: b.mcpvp.com but i get the same error all the time
allthough I was able to play for a little while before i was kicked b the server, so i tried deleting my entire minecraft and download a nw one, and now i cant even connect to the server, cant even log in for that little while -.-
Has no one found a fix for this yet? It's been going on for months
I too have had this issue since about April. Before April, I never had this issue at all. Log on to the server, and I get large chat lag, large lag before a chest opens and so fourth. It is not just 1 server, it is all servers I try to connect to, even servers hosted in the same country. It started happening for me only in the evenings from about 8pm. After about 11 pm, everything would be fine. During the day everything works perfectly. If I am already connected when I get to the 8pm time, it continues to work perfectly until I disconnect myself and try to reconnect again (because of a server restart or I generally have to log off to do something else)
My internet download speed and upload speed is fine during these times. Nothing wrong there. It only seems to be minecraft servers, other games I have played have no issues at all.
My actions in game, like chat, commands, movement, etc are all registered by the server, but I see no response on my end. I know this because I have been speaking to people on team speak, who can see my chat messages but they have not appeared for me in game yet. I keep chatting away in game and my friends just reply to me on team speak.
Since becoming an admin on the server, I also have access to the console and can see my chat messages and commands like /tp and /home appear immediately after I type them, but I do not see my chat message or that I have teleported at my end. People in game can see that I have teleported to them. If I log out then log back in, I can see that I am at the location that I prevously teleported to.
So it seems to be an issue with the information being sent back to my client because the server registered it just fine. It's not a firewall issue on my computer. If it was, it would happen all the time and not just at night. I have tried it on other PC's in the house and get the same issue. I also don't believe it is my ISP because like I said, other online games work fine, it just seems to be minecraft servers.
Could be something to do with Minecraft using TCP rather han UDP where as most other games use UDP.
If there was a way to tweak TCP settings to make it more "minecraft server friendly" that would be great. Does anybody know?
I have tried incrementally decreasing my MTU in the router, but it has not resolved the issue.
I am glad I am not the only one that is experiencing this. Glad I am not alone.
I might also ad that sometimes I can connect during that time. If I log in and notice the lag (I can tell because I see the chunks loading very slowly in the mini map), I disconnect straight away and reconnect. I spam this until I connect and see the chunks loading quickly, then I am connected fine.
Doesn't always work though. Sometimes it takes a lot of disconnects and re logs. Sometimes I just give up
Most of the time I see it happen, is when chunks load up to a certain point but then stop loading or when the chunks load very slowly. Sometimes I see only just a few chunks around me has loaded.
ok i had this problem to HAD what was the last thing u did before it wasn't working? undo that then it should work or it needs more memory either add more or take off some stuff this is what i did it worked for me hope it workd for you 2
Nah, it's not a memory issue or an issue with my PC. It only happens to me during the night time. At other times everything is working fine, all chunks loading quickly, no chat lag, no chest/container opening lag, no block drop lag. Only at night time I get all those lags. And it is only minecraft servers. Other types of game servers don't have any issue for me. Connecting to a LAN server or a server hosted on my LAN has no issue for me either.
Will it also destroy your house/all the stuff in the boxes in your house? Or just your inventory?
Nope just your inventory.
