So I have a server already set up and running fine, on normal difficulty. I was previously just running the vanilla client, but have switched to using Bukkit. I understand how to use both.
I am looking to simply prevent hostile mobs from spawning in a finite section of the world, without changing the whole server to peaceful. I was told that "WorldGuard" can do this, and if I have to use that I will, but was curious if there was a simpler Bukkit plugin or even (preferably) just a simple mod for the vanilla client that will permit me to prevent mob spawns in a defined section of the world.

jefe's right; use WorldGuard. It's relatively simple and adds all sorts of bonus features (ex: only certain people can enter a region)
