I made a start_server.command, but it didn't let me change the .rtf. so I was able to do that it the files. Then I dragged it into the terminal after typing chmod +x. The nit gave me this message:

I had a similar issue with the current version of craftbukkit. The problem turned out to be in the "Obtaining Startup Script" section of the instructions. When you copy and paste the text for the start_server.command file it doesn't work. You have to go to text edit, delete the line breaks (paragraphs), and manually enter them yourself, otherwise it results in:
...
-bash: /Users/.../start_server.command: /bin/bash^M: bad interpreter: No such file or directory logout

Thanks, but I don't know where to put my script I saved in txt edit. It said in my craftbukkit folder. I don't have a folder, I have a .jar
IIRC it means the folder where craftbukkit.jar is
usage: chmod [-fhv] [-R [-H | -L | -P]] [-a | +a | =a [i][# [ n]]] mode|entry file ...
chmod [-fhv] [-R [-H | -L | -P]] [-E | -C | -N | -i | -I] file ...
So then I tried to click on the same shell and it said no access to it.
Sometimes, it didn't even recognize it as a shell
It needs to be saved as a .command file, and make sure you put a space after +x before you drag the file into terminal.

After having tried to run it several times with that error I got the "**** FAILED TO BIND TO PORT!" error. I found the solution here:
