I know this has been an issue for other people but I've yet to find an answer that fixes it.
I can't login into my Minecraft client. You should know:
Yes. I own the game. I've owned it since Alpha, I think. At least Alpha.
My Java is completly updated.
Last login was yesterday or the day before and nothing significant has happened - that I know of - to my computer or to Minecraft.
Anyone with some experience here that could help? Or point me in a useful direction?
Also, I can login into Minecraft.net with no problems.
No it's just because a bunch of people trying to log on at once just keep trying at different times :tongue.gif:
Really??!!! I mean, that would be great if that's what it is, but I would be suprised.
This has been like this ALL day. I couldn't log in at 10am this morning and I've tried several times throughout the day. Not to mention, that I've NEVER not been able to log on like this before.
Well if you can login into the minecraft.net webpage, you have answered your question. Let's say someone had actually hacked you, where would they go to change the password in the first place?

Get out there, kick the clutch, catch that rear end, and feel it.
If you still cannot login, download "Malwarebytes" and scan for any viruses.
Huh. I wouldn't have thought a virus would do this. Not to suggest MACS are virus-proof, but I've not experienced any other symptoms of a virus.
Let me ask you all this: How would I go about creating a new minecraft screenname and password that would allow me to actually login and recieve updates? Would I have to buy a new client? Could I transfer my world saves over into it?
Macs tend to not show symptoms of most viruses, which is one of the many reasons to get a desktop computer. If your error is "Cannot connect minecraft.net" well then there are too many people playing at that moment. If it's something else, you either typed in your password/username wrong. If that's not the problem, you should be worried.
The whole screen name and password is part of your Minecraft account. Without it, you don't own the game. You can still mess with any files you still have, but you won't be able to play online.
I had that problem too!If you still have the old launcher that doesn't show you the changelog and all that crap, it gives that error and won't let you update. Solution: Re-download the launcher off the site.

I apologize for any offense you take at my posts, I am a very critical person.

Not bad for a 7 year old
Tell your he she is smarter than most people on this forums , because she is.
Try going to minecraft.net and logging in there. If that also says that your login info is wrong, and you're sure that you typed it in right, then it seems as though your account has been compromised.
Try the "Forgot Password" button on the site, and see if you can reset your password.
Also, make sure to download some antivirus, and do a scan of your computer as it is. It could very well be that some kind of malware has stolen your password.
I have the new client. Completely removed old client and all related folders. A fresh install as it were, giving up all my old worlds(kept a copy of them of course).
I have the latest Java
video drivers
etc. etc.
I can log in at the website
I can play the game at the website
I can not use the client to play the game at all.
It starts, is obviously the new client with the new updates and links viewed at start.
However when i try to log in
"Too many failed logins"
is all I get.
This has been going on from the first day of 1.8
and is still going on.
Not a failed to connect to server issue at all, based on the message and no lengthy time out wait for an error return.
Anyone else?
Is this a known issue all around?
Has anyone found a "fix" beside just keep trying? As i have been trying many times a day at different times through out the days.
*****EDIT*****
Well of course it works now.
I just tried it a couple of times.
Came here to see if anyone else was still having the same issue and if a fix was yet known.
Then went and tried it once more after posting this.
Should have know making a post that have an issue would solve my issue
*****EDIT*****
And then crashed after about 40 or so min. "ran out of memory"
then back to the "too many failed logins" issue
still works fine in the browser, have not had the out of memory issue from the browser ever.
As above, I've logged in for the first time in a week or so thanks to the new launcher. Which was great! I was afraid I would have to re-purchase the game and loose my ID! But I can keep this one - cause i like it - and I've got a spiffy new password.
I'd say 20 mins into playing on a server, though, the game crashes. "ran out of memory" What the heck?!? I'm secure in the knowledge that my computer hasn't run out of memory. It's a substantial machine.
So what is this? A bug? There was someone who posted a similar problem in this thread a bit earlier. Anyone with some more of those helpful suggestion.

"Login Failed"
That's what it says when I try to log in. I have an old launcher though. I'm gonna try the newer one.

It's the one that say Minecraft.exe.
Yep^
They just replaced the old one, quick and easy.
I was confused by the /download page at minecraft.net. Thought the new launcher had a specific download link apart from minecraft.exe.
But, hey! Lauched fine and allowed me to log in!
So seriously guys and gals, thanks for your patience. You guys are always ready to help and everyone appreciates it. For you:
