I just got into using redstone, and im hooked, but i've hit a few snags. the first thing i ever made was a simple button+redstone+door, now i have a complete rail system, redstone trap for mob grinding ish ness, and a TNT cannon. what i really want to do is set up my minecart system to stop at stops and get up and go when i get on. is there any way to do this?
I', also experimenting with TNt cannons that shoot people, to be used as a means of mass travel, but so far it wont shoot me far enough to make it workable.
The relatively new 'powered rail' would be useful. When unpowered it slows a minecart, but when powered it launches it forward. Other than that, I have no clue.

I've tried using the rowered rail for this and it doesn't behave the way i want it to, as long as its on it will accelerate the minecart, as long as its off is slows it to a stop. but if the rail is turned on with a cart on the track it wont move it unless the player does. I'm trying to work out something of a negative feedback loop so that all switches must be on for the rail to be on, but it's not working too well.
If I am understanding you correctly you need to build a rail station. I used one in this video when it is not powered it stops you. If you power it, it launches you forward.
well i will load that up and see what comes of it. by the by, has anyone found out a way to reach ludicrous speed again? since the minecart "fix?" I just wanted o use it to move from place to place without a huge amount of effort, my brother wants to make jumps and roller coasters but powered rails don't make provide THAT much power.
thats right, always been like that, and should stay that way. but as far as i know minecarts will gain momentum infinitely and continue moving at max speed until all "built up" momentum is spent. thus why minecart booster were such a huge success among the modding community.
