I just get a black screen after logging in. I tried deleting/redownloading all the files and even tried launching via .bat and still no go. I get the following error when launching from the batch file:

Running on Win 7 Ent 64-bit, i7 2600k, 16gb RAM, 3xfire HD 6990/6970
The exact same thing keeps happening to me. The screen of the game will go black, I can exit out of it, and then go back in. In the last 10 minutes it has happens about 5 times. It has so far destroyed the same building over and over and over and over and over again. This is ridiculous.
I am running Windows 7 32 bit, so I know it isn't the 64 bit problem.
I gave 4 GB of RAM, a 2.5 GHz quad core, and a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260. So it isn't that it is using up to much of my computer.
My computer has had this setup for months now, and for a year before that with 2GB of ram, a 2.4 GHz dual core, and a GeForce 9600 and this has never happened.
I have never had this problem other than in the past week. Anyone have any idea what to do?
Bump
I bought the game back in 1.3, when I updated to 1.4_01 I had crashes every 5-60 minutes, I then updated both 32bit and 64bit java and the problem was absolutely gone
Now about 2 weeks after I updated to 1.5_01 I have experiance this crash around about every 2-10 minutes
All my java, drivers (except bios as it's downloading atm) are fully uptodate, and it shouldn't be a hardware related issue unless it has something to do with nvidia cards
EDIT: The .bat doesn't work for me as the .exe randomly wont execute for me so I had to use the .jar (linux other), also playing in the browser wont work either as I get a whitescreen. The console says the whitescreen has something to do with not knowing how to open ModLoader
The bat fixes it for some people
as does the render distance change.
Also playing in browser sometimes fixes it but many people (myself included) hate how small the screen is =/
Another problem with the bat fix also seems that it only plays the game "offline" so you can't play multiplayer...
Maybe someone can help this shitty problem. Okay, first, if I patch my MC for texture packs, it is a black screen. If I mod EXACTLY how it tells me to, it gets stuck 3/4th of the way loading.
Okay, I have had this problem. I cannot get you a full report, because I use a mac, and it shows the error message for a fraction of a second before the entire program closing. It does not happen to me after a certain amount of time, and this happens on single player and online, but whenever I place a block or craft something the game freezes, goes black then a fraction of a second error message before my game crashes and I cant read it anymore. I tried to take a video of it and I did, but the error message required scrolling and I could not read more than the introduction. This sucks. I want minecraft back.
Trying to keep this thread open as none of the posted solutions work for me
Does anyone have any clues as to if this bug/epic fail is fixed in any of the new 1.6 updates as I still have yet to see this in the changelog...
1.6 still has the out of memory issue as far as I'm aware.
However 1.6 is rendered unusable until further notice anyway.
So I'm sticking with 1.5 until notch has sorted it in 1.6_05
Modloader or any mods you have installed might be causing your problem. Whenever a new patch is released all mods need to be updated to be compatible with the new patch (this often includes texture packs).
Try deleting your .minecraft\bin folder and let the launcher re-download a fresh copy. Then make sure you're using the default texture pack and start a new world.
If the problem doesn't occur here then you know the issue is either your mods or certain modded content in your old world (again, you will likely have to wait for all the mods you were using to be updated for compatibility with the new patch).
All my texture packs are fine and work in browser but I think this may have something to do with my version still being unupdated on 1.5_01
(All mods installed on mine are all the correct version and are all tested within the browser so I am very stumped right now)

Super Hostile maps I've completed: Spellbound Caves (Yeah, I pretty much suck.)
Have you tried the bat fix?
Haha 2 diamonds picks eh? 6 diamonds and 4 sticks lost is nothing. Try losing over 2 stacks of diamonds while mining...
Just use invedit to save your inventory and to give your stuff back. Just try not to use it to cheat more than you lost :wink.gif:
