I'm having extreme amounts of problems playing on a multiplayer server after the new update (also the bug-fix).
I have horrible lag when I log on to our home server, and I seem to be the only one out of the group experiencing this, but it certainly does seem that there are more people experiencing this problem... Has anyone been able to fix this??? This is really annoying because it honestly makes it unplayable, the lag is that bad. When I log in I start with "falling" through the world, looking at the stars, Mario style, for about 1-2 minutes. Then I spawn where I last logged out, and it takes very long for the terrain to load. If I try and build stuff, it disappears and reappears, sometimes 4 or 5 times. If I try and remove blocks, they reappear and sometimes don't disappear again. My chat takes forever to come up and it's all very uncomfortable.
Here's what I've already tried: restarting the server, restarting the client, restarting the computer, deleting everything (backed up saves and texture packs) and reinstalling Minecraft, relogging endlessly, sobbing hopelessly, etc.
Please help :sad.gif:

I'm pretty retarded when it comes to computers but I hope this answers your questions
cpu= AMD Athion 64 (c/p from online tells me- Athlon 64 TF-20 is a low-power single-core microprocessor with 1.6 GHz core clock frequency and 512 KB level 2 cache)
Windows 7
Updated java last night
I got this craptop at walmart about 2 years ago for a little over 300 bucks.
Is that the info you were looking for?
I also got that java socket write error last night for the first time ever and switched some things around with my network card... that didn't help at all.

Nevermind, I have had this error all the time - appears when you try to join an MP server that has online account verification turned on and the verification server is down/unreachable/whatever.
Interesting. I've seen threads pop up for that error every so often... now they have an answer.
I had the problem last night, then this morning is was somehow just fixed.. Then I downloaded the bug fix and it came back >.>.
Anyway, someone posted last night that by limiting the frame rate (Options > Video Settings > Limit Frame Rate) the lag seems to go, which it does. It might be a bit jumpy at some points, but at least the worlds load and talking and moving blocks is actually possible for now.
That actually decreased the severity of the problem somewhat (the 30+ second lag has been reduced to ~3-5 seconds). Hopefully though, someone at Mojang actually solves the problem, and not just treat the symptoms.

Yeah limiting the framerate is 1000 times better than just bouncing in the void but there's still some pretty big lag spikes for me. Multiplayer is somewhat playable now, meaning I can hang out in a room and chat with people. Blocks don't always place, and the chat still lags every 3 minutes or so, but at least I'm actually able to move now.

Interesting, because it could support my threading theory - imagine the game client is just too busy updating the graphics (because without frame rate limitation it will constantly try to do this as often as possible), leaving no more processing cycles for, let's say, the networking part of the game.
I'm absolutely no expert on Java threads, but from my understanding (and experience with colleagues at work) it's not trivial to balance them right.
So I assume that this is a problem with the game's programing, and not actually something that I can fix with my computer?
I also have a single core TOSHIBA that has been more than enough to run Minecraft on until this patch.
But it definitely looks like single core computer users are the ones getting this problem. I'm not gonna be able to buy a new computer just to be able to run Minecraft though :sad.gif:

I'm having the chat lag, server lag, etc. Posted on Get Satisfaction as well, but I'm going to add here too.
Ping to the server host is fine, I can chat from the console over the same connection with no problems, but when I play it seems to take 30 seconds or longer to chat, use items, etc. I seem to get a lot of lag when loading chunks at login as well.
My computer specs are: Intel i7 2600K quad core, 16GB RAM, windows 7 x64, nvidia geforce 470 GTX superclocked. I have framerate limiting on, draw distance set to normal, and smooth lighting enabled in game.
Chat lag, and blocks just not loading, and if they load things are unusable. Doubtful this is a CPU issue. It only happen AFTER the patch. Bad Programming is indeed, bad programming :wink.gif:
No problem here but i have no problems with hardware
I5 750 @ 4ghz, SLI 460GTX, 8gig of ram etc etc.. , it's a desktop (god i hate laptops with a passion...) :wink.gif:
The game top arond 28% CPU (use only 1 core btw) and about 38% of one of my 460...
Yeah but the thing is this is very unlikely to be a hardware issue. I may be running a single core, but it's a good machine and it runs much bigger graphics games like a breeze. Minecraft has never been an issue, never had any lag on multiplayer at all, a few world holes here and there that have disappeared after relogging - other than that, not a single problem. I really doubt that with one patch Minecraft has made a significant amount of it's user's computers obsolete.

I just want to make sure Notch is aware of this and he knows it's not just a mac issue.
I really agree with this. It seems that the MAC users had some problems with the 1.3 patch, so 1.3_01 came and fixed that. Meanwhile, I've been having the same problems the whole time (and apparently am far from being the only one having these issues!)
I did have some success with the limiting the framerate "solution", but a) the problem's not completely gone, just significantly reduced and :cool.gif: this is a temporary solution, Notch & Co. really have to come up with a more permanent one.

I have to agree with this - this just can't be a CPU issue. Bad programming may be bad programming, but it's also fixable.

I doubt that this is a hardware issue, and is certainly not a single-core problem (I'm running a quad-core and I'm still falling into oblivion when I join a server).
My specs, if it helps:
Windows 7 Professional 64bit
AMD Phenom Quad-Core @ 2.2ghz
3GB Memory
Nvidia GeForce 9800GT factory OC
Comodo Firewall
avast! Antivirus

The thing that's most frustrating is watching my friends sit here and play on the same server, same update, no problems at all. I'm jealous!!!!
Ive done everything as to using both old and new launchers, deleting everything, and redowloading the launcher.
I can run single player at ma settings but mutliplayer is haywire.
