Well since everybody has an opinion that they want to state, I guess i can throw mine in.
ITS A GAME! OMG!
minecraft is down....what ever shall we do...
well, many of us have this thing between our legs....its called a penis....use it. its more fun then minecraft anyway.
for those of us that dont have a penis, well you'll have to use your vagina...which works our perfectly cause most of us with a penis would love to help use your vagina!

Now back to the issue at hand. I bet you dont even come close to realizing how much processing power an auth server requires. How many servers do you think run hotmail.com login (JUST THE LOGIN)....its more then you'd think.
Google has a server farm in oregon....its larger then an airplane hanger...FULL OF SERVERS. notch has an office, which is a couple of rooms. We are not talking 10,000 USD for a new server. we're talking 1/2 million or more. PLUS the badwidth costs.
Then you find another way to use the existing servers and it's not by requiring players to log in to one common server each and every time they want to multiplay online. duhh

A Fan-Boy never admits anything bad about his favorite game.
If a game in production were the Titanic ocean liner, a Fan-Boy would not admit the ship was sinking even when his feet were getting wet.
I say if you don't like how it is, then don't play and don't complain where we can see it. Those of us that love Minecraft will stick with it, while people like you can quit so no more space in the support section is wasted.

Yet I didn't pay for Gmail and I can always pretty much expect to log in anytime I want without a hitch. Now is it wrong to expect the same results from a product I paid for? They did not sell a million copies overnight either and from what I can tell it's been a recurrent problem for some time. I can understand server maintenance and going down sometimes but not every weekend.

The people who are complaining are complaining because they don't want to quit, and because they love playing the game. Something a melted-down auth server stops them doing.
He's one of those people in society that keeps going on and on about things most people will not agree with him on, and since he truly believes in whatever he's saying it's almost impossible to change his mind. I would just leave and not say anything to keep him here.

If they love playing the game, then it shouldn't matter what world, or who they're playing with, or if it's single player. Just play to play.

Another YES-fan, telling us he likes this malfunction the way it is and we have no right to complain,,,,no basis of fact here at all.

It is in Beta still, you can't expect it to be perfect, the problem will be fixed as the game develops. Not to mention it's run by a handfull of people not some giant corperation.

I should really just sig this:
Because it's an issue fundamental to the game working at all? That's like having an experimental car where the starter has a 50/50 chance of either starting the car or causing it to explode and then saying "well jeez guys it's an EXPERIMENTAL CAR you can't expect the ignition to ALWAYS work!" No, you CAN because there is nothing experimental about starters, and if there is YOU'RE DOING SOMETHING VERY WRONG.

I'm not saying I like when something goes wrong with a game. But going this far with a complaint is ridiculous and nothing is going to change because of it. Complain all you want, but put it somewhere more useful than support.

It's a problem with core functionality of the game. It's a support forum problem, and people should raise hell until it's fixed.

Another YES-fan blaming this trouble on BETA,it's not a BETA problem it is an equipment problem. Inadequate use of equipment.
ZeroPointTsuna I will be more than happy to share a meaningful dialog with you when you have actual facts to talk about, which you yourself fully understand.

actualy you do pay for gmail. Not by actualy sending in a subscription fee, but by be present to look at the ads presented on gmail, and on other sites.
notice that alot of the ads say "presented by Google TM"? thats what you pay with.

There's more to life than Minecraft. Maybe some people should try getting out and "exploring"
This is a really tired refrain, and a sign that the person making it has unconditionally lost the argument. Maybe you should try getting off the forum and annoying people IRL.

But it's not going to speed it up any faster, isn't there anything else to use your time with?

Squeaky wheel gets the grease. Don't you have something better to do than shout down people with legitimate complaints?
And I've been using my time on the forum for things other than complaining, btw. Here I offered advice to a prospective customer.

Senselessly you are just moving off the discussion and excusing our problem out with your so called "exploring." Instead of moving off the discussion, say something smart.
lol
