Hey everyone, I'm having exactly the same problem. Obviously none of the fixes work. I'm not sure if posting my specs will help myself or anyone else, but at least it's another post for mojang to see.
Windows xp, AMD Anthalon 64 Processor 3000+ and 1.25 GB of Ram. As far as minecraft I have the fps limiter on, but I'm still averaging 60-80fps in multiplayer, with Fraps I can get it down to 20-30, but I still have all the problems. I hope this issue gets resolved soon. Thanks guys!
I can also confirm that the issue persists, even after updating. Nothing has changed for me either.
I understand that Mojang may be busy, especially with their project going so well, and their popularity ever rising, but this is just sad. The game may be fantastic and incredibly addicting, but the support and dev-team are simply disastrous lately. I haven't actually played Minecraft in a couple months now due to this. I'm currently in the process of saving up for a new computer - not because of this issue, but I hope that the problem won't occur on the new system regardless. If it does, then I'm going to give up. I've tweeted the entire dev-team multiple times, and I did my best to get this thread recognized, on a board where said dev-team supposedly roams, but we haven't gotten any word from them.
Thanks to everyone else who has recognized that this is no small problem, and for trying to help. I still hope that this will one day be fixed, but I'm no longer holding my breath. I'm done waiting for something that should have happened months ago.
I have the same problem, but I've noticed it's only when I'm in a skype call or on mumble. Would anyone else like to confirm this, or maybe it's just me?

I think thats just a coincidence.
On the topic of how laggy multiplayer servers are right now, I'm having the same issue. Even with just one person on the server there is so much lag it's un-playable. Doesn't matter what your system specs are, multiplayer is just f****d right now.

Fall in lava, lose everything...
Go to chest, find out you don't actually need anything you've been saving.
tip- the detailed report and video is pro... Never seen such a great error report.
I found that prioritizing the client seemed to help a lot, and i had lag issues far beyond yours, and single player worked fine for me as well. I also have a shittier computer.
-by prioritizing i mean- task manager>Processes>Javaw.exe>Priority>High
I never had this issue before in alpha, and i still get this when i don't prioritize.
Don't forget to limit your framerate, that tends to be a serious issue that conflicts with your connetion.

Well, I checked it. I have version 1.5_01. It doesn't work worth ****. I'm trying everything...I just wish people wouldn't lose hope. I mean, I'm sure they'll fix it eventually! Either way, I think right now all we can do it wait because 1.5_01 hasn't fixed it so far :/
The same thing is happening to me I bought this game to play with friends not to wait for the next update its been lagging everyone on my server and none of this works I'm rather mad.
It's been more than a month and this is still happening. Shame, Mojang. Shame.
