put your minecraft.exe in any folder, just make sure you copy the path, and rename it to minecraft.jar
then open notepad, paste this line
java -Xmx800m -jar "PATH\Minecraft.jar
paste the path to the folder where minecraft is into PATH
then click save -> save it as NAME.bat (NAME can be anything that you want)
then from now on, double-click this NAME.bat file to open minecraft... and do not close the cmd that will open...
example:
I put minecraft.jar on C:\
so on notepad I do this:
java -Xmx800m -jar "C:\Minecraft.jar
Holy crap it worked!!! Thank you! I've spent all morning updating drivers, bios, whatever I could find, and a simple .bat file was all that I needed. Of course I have to set my graphics settings incredibly low to prevent lag on this laptop, but it's worth it to be able to play the game on the road!
Alrighty SO I've tried all these options. That whole .bat thing? Doesn't work. The accelerated slide bar? Doesn't show me one, claims I'm not allowed to make changes to it. That Cataclysm thing? Downloaded it, restarted computer after it installed, booted up Minecraft. It showed a black screen for awhile then BAM same message.
I want to play my minecraft. I adore it and want to play with my friends. Video card is a Radeon 1300, Windows 7 32-bit. This is my error. PLEASE can someone help me?
Bad video card drivers!
-----------------------
Minecraft was unable to start because it failed to find an accelerated OpenGL mode.
This can usually be fixed by updating the video card drivers.

There is a very simple fix that worked for me without needing to type anything in a command line.
1. Right click on your desktop, somewhere empty
2. Click on 'Properties' (or just navigate to your Display Properties window in Control Panel)
3. Click 'Settings'
4. At the bottom right of the window that pops up is a tab titled 'Advanced' <---- click this tab
5. One of the tab options at the top of the window will be 'Troubleshoot' <---- click this tab
6. Now you will see 'Hardware acceleration and a slider bar that says 'None' on the left and 'Full' on the right.
7. You need to move the slider bar to just about the middle spot. For me it was the point just left of the middle that allowed it to work for me.
8. Click 'Apply'
9. Now go play Minecraft.
My laptop had this issue and I was able to get it running (pretty low fps) with this method. My laptop has an integrated Intel GMA950 graphics chipset.
Hope this helps.
Haha, is there a Windows 7 variant of this instruction?
I know that with Optifine (a preformance boosting mod) installed, AdvancedOpenGL basically makes it so that only the visible geometry of blocks render, like in a field, normally the whole top layer of blocks render, with the AdvancedOpenGL, only the tops of the blocks render.

Minecraft tutorials, programming, let's plays! You name it, I'll make it!
I am also having this problem on a temporary replacement laptop (My real laptop is getting fixed) 1.75 Ghz proc 1GB Ram.
Intel insists my Mobile Intel(R) 945 Express Chipset Family (Microsoft Corperation - WDDM 1.0) drivers are current and should support OpenGL. I have attempted every solution I see here the .jar trick, unistalling MC making sure my Java and drivers are upto date and reinstalling MC, Hardware Accelerator slidebar (I do not appear to have that option with Win7) none of it has worked any suggestions what else might work?
I Have an Intel (R) 82865G Graphics Controller on a windows 7 computer when i try to update my drivers it says up to date when i try to play minecraft it says it failed to find an accelerated Open GL Mode and i could be fixed by updating my drivers but it says well, you get the point plzzzz resond
