I'm using MCP to create a new mod, but the items I've created aren't working. They craft right, they give the right amount of food health, and they have their textures. But their names aren't showing when I scroll over them. I figured this forum would help me out the most. Keep in mind I don't want to use ModLoader or anything new like that. I'll just show you one item for simplicity.
These are the new lines/code I added for the item:
Item.java:
public class Item
{
...
public static Item cheese = (new ItemFood(267, 3, 0.3F, false)).setUnlocalizedName("cheese");
...
}
RecipesFood:
public void addRecipes(CraftingManager par1CraftingManager)
{
...
par1CraftingManager.addShapelessRecipe(new ItemStack(Item.cheese), new Object[] {Item.bucketMilk, Item.bucketMilk, Item.bucketMilk});
...
}
en_US.lang:
// I included the text around the text I added, to show what I did
item.netherquartz.name=Nether Quartzitem.cheese.name=Cheesecontainer.inventory=Inventory
I don't see what I'm doing wrong.
To anyone having the same problem: If you're using Notepad, don't. For some reason Notepad sucks at word wrapping or doesn't have certain return characters. Use something else, like WordPad, instead. It clearly shows the spaces between lines, unlike Notepad. WordPad comes with Windows as an accessory just like NotePad.

I fixed the problem at the same time I was reloading the page to read your post :D. Thanks for your help, and I posted my solution for other people.
