Get dedicated servers from OVH and resell if you want to be competitive, or you can do the same with large VPS / Cloud servers.I have started writing a guide on what it takes to setup your own Minecraft Hosting Company here >> So You Want To Be A Minecraft Host
I would make sure to mention the amount of overhead that is required in order to actually sustain the business long enough to grow it. As well as the need to provide quality customer support around the clock, 7 days a week. There are no days off and there are no holidays. When you host to people around the world, you are required to be there for them, regardless of the reason.
Way to many people get into this business because people tell them it is easy to make a buck but then they fail to realize that your first three months, you will not make back your money at all or potentially more than that. On top of it, you are going to have to compete with people who oversell, undercut your prices, and compete on a wholly unbalanced medium.
Being competitive in what is essentially a monopolisticly competitive environment is basically an uphill battle. Therefore, OP, prepare yourself, have a solid business plan, and make sure you can sell like no other. Be prepared to be willing to be complained at and worked against, as it will happen lol.
Best of luck and if you make it, it'll be worth it. Just keep in mind, the market is finite and therefore, you have to compete with the big dogs from day one.
Yep agreed it is most definitely not going to be easy, and we see Minecraft Hosting companies go under on a monthly basis. Make sure you do your homework and come up with a solid business plan as FEH stated. Make sure you can sustain the overhead for the first few months at the start and don't expect to make any real money for at least 3-4 months and even than it won't be much. Make sure that you can come close to competing with the big guys pricewise and still make a decent profit per server. Don't forget to factor in that you will need staff at some point and the impact that will have on profits.
It will be very hard but if you stick with it and do it right you can make a job out of it.
