Hello all
My friend and I want to purchase a two player server so we can play together. We would just be playing vanilla minecraft, so what size server do we need? Like how much RAM and memory do we need? Also do we have to download anything to play or do they just end us the IP and were ready to play? Thanks for the help
256mb will do it without a doubt but if some odd reason you need more 512mb will do guaranteed for just 2 on factory installed Minecraft. The reason I say that because the server is literally just pay and play with the latest regular Minecraft.
1. Download the minecraft server program from minecraft.net/download
2. Put it in a folder called 'Minecraft Server" or something like that
3. Run it, it should create a bunch of files inside the folder, if you just want a normal vanilla survival server leave most of these alone
4. The server will then work for inside your Wi-Fi, If you want it to work outside your Wi-Fi network you will need to port forward
5. To port forward, go to start (I'm on windows 7 so if you aren't this mightn't work) and type cmd
6. This will open command prompt, type in "ipconfig", this will spit out a bunch of text. Go to IPv4.
7. Type that number into your internet browser.
What happens next depends on your internet router, post some pics after you have followed my steps so I can help you some more

Thanks for the help but I dont think my internet is good enough or my laptop. Do I need to setup any plugins or thing like that?
If its just you and a friend it would probably be easier to portforward instead of pay about $1 a month. But you could just get a host to give you about 200MB for free because it is not that much.
Oh I didn't read the part where it said purchase... Oops
Anyway... Do you know the specs of your computer? My computer runs the server and the client and it's not really laggy and my computer isn't great
Thanks for all the help guys we ended up going with MCproHosting and it runs really well. We went with a little bigger then we needed but i rather have some extra room. Thanks again guys.
