I am looking into buying a VPS SSD from OVH. I will use it to host ~2 Game Servers at a time, one being a Minecraft server. If I hypothetically were to run just a Minecraft server, how many players are we talking about before I see some issues? I want to know if the new processor can hold up? Here are the specs:
(Note that the VPS will have the new Xeon E5v3 processor)
Two game servers at a time on a VPS? No way, go with something bigger. With my experience with the 2GB VPS from OVH, it's not all that. Go with a company like BuyVM that does't use or depend on SWAP memory, cheap prices, great specifications and perfect DDoS mitigation from Voxility. Of course you could setup GRE/IPIP tunnels, but that's pathetic if you have to do that knowing they have "pro" protection. Besides, I've heard OVH has some mitigation problems. I haven't received an attack yet so I can't say for sure about that one. Go with an actual hosting provider, I recommend www.minerack.org, because you won't have to spend a whole bunch of money on the control panel etc it's all there for you.
