I'm planning on creating a new type of Minecraft server host, assuming the community likes the idea.
Basically, you spend $10 per month on your 1 GB Minecraft server from MCProHosting, but what about the times when no one is on the server? You are still paying for that time. This is what I plan on changing. Here's some basic information:
You pay on an hourly basis.
At the end of the month, you pay for the hours you used (Hourly rate is based on the RAM selected)
You can put your server in a "sleep mode", which will stop you from being charged for it.
You are also set the server up to automatically "sleep" after a certain number of minutes.
You can set up the server to automatically turn on when someone attempts to join
You can allow everyone (or selected users) to turn the server on (if it is sleeping)
With this host, you'll really get what you pay for!

<del>Check out my server (s.BayCraft.cf) and its website (BayCraftWeb.tk)!</del>
BayCraft has shut down
Hello there Bayside, this is a great idea, the thing is, how will you manage to determine if the server is sleeping or not, and how will you end the instance if its empty, also, how to turn it back on in join attempt (if its offline) ?
This sounds very interesting, and i would like to hear more about it

Great Idea,How ever I would have no clue on how to monitor how many hours clients use on the server's,and if have say 20-30 clients that alot of extra work,Unless there is a program that will allow to record what the server's are doing,And if a client forget to turn the server off for 2-32 days with no activities then your going to have a pretty bitchie customer

Sounds alot like digitalocean, however for the host's side, how would you be making profit? You would essentially have to oversell, and hope the clients server is in sleep mode while someone else's is running, otherwise you'd be wasting resources and not receiving any money for the time that one of your clients servers are in sleep mode.
Example: You are selling a total of 10GB, you could ONLY sell 10GB, so what happens when lets say only 2GB is being used, you can't put more servers there because you don't know when someone else is going to turn on their server again

This can be done with the McMyAdmin sleep mode. I think I need to revise this idea though
