Hey guys, I was just wondering if hamachi was a good way to host a server for me and some friends of mine. I am wondering if it will keep my IP safe because those friends might invite their friends and I don't want to get Ddossed or anything of the kind.
You will give your friends your hamachi IP instead of your normal network IP so it can hide your real IP but it can be inconvenient since everyone has to download hamachi.
Hamachi and DDoS attacks are a hassle for you and your players. Consider professional hosting, forget about Hamachi and DDoS, and just play! Let me know if I can do anything for you.
Honestly if you have standard residential internet your IP is dynamic anyway so you can just reboot your router or release and renew your routers DHCP address and bam different IP. This is assuming you aren't using DNS or dynamic DNS.

That is not always the case and simply rebooting your modem may not release & renew your DHCP lease. A lot of providers now have the leases in a round robin system that does not change until the set time that they have designated for the lease to change.

doesn't work if the attacker is smart enough to attack the DSLAM rather than you directly.

hamachi just does hole-punching, you can still get the other person's IP

Thanks for answering my question I'll probably just stick with aternos.com for the time being

I think people make DDoS attacks out to be more of an issue than they are. I ran a server for three years and never had a problem. *shrug*
