Yet again I'm back to discuss what's going to happen to Minecraft Hosting and Minecraft servers. I guess you could call this a follow-up to my last thread (which can be found here).
First of all, Minecraft servers. What's going to happen, who's going to be affected and how will we "react" to it. As stated by the EULA, you are not allowed to try or make profit of content which Mojang have created, aka selling anything on a minecraft server. Upon starting a server, you are now required to agree to the EULA created. MCMyAdmin, a famous Minecraft controlpanel, has already implemented this.
But let's be honest, that's easy to bypass. Won't go into detail on that. I'm assuming Multicraft will do something like that in the near future as well.
Anyways, back on topic. Minecraft servers will not be allowed to sell anything, this including perks on the server such as ranks, upgrades, kits and in-game currency, and obviously minecraft blocks and items. Basically you're not allowed to sell anything. Many people take the term "donation" into their server when people purchase a perk, however a donation is considered something you give without expecting anything you return. If you've ever bought a rank on a server, you haven't donated basically.
Mojang wants to enforce the term donation and make it the only possible way to earn money on a server. Basically, you can only donate to a server, and as a server owner you are not allowed to give a reward for it. Loads of less people are actually going to donate, as they get no perks. A server might go from $100/mo in donations to a lucky month of $10. It's going to screw people without jobs up, and that's a lot of us.
Secondly, the hosting industry. There's actually pros here, but not for all. You might want to read about the servers before you read this, just a tip. For the reference, Notch has stated in a tweet that hosting companies are legal and that the EULA will not harm them in any way. We're safe there, however there's more.
Anyways. As the hosting industry and the hosting companies will not be harmed by the EULA, they will loose a lot of profit and income. Server owners will be loosing their income as it's now illegal to sell perks, and people don't want to donate for nothing. This means that server hosting companies will loose customers and clients, and they'll start dying out. I guess that's a good thing because of all the Summer Hosts that will die out instantly, but it's bad for everyone else.
A big company such as MCProHosting or GGServers will easily be able to survive. MCProHosting has an incredibly huge load of advertisements places on various places on the internet, and they'll always get new sales through that. GGServers provide incredibly cheap servers and people will keep on buying from them as they are so cheap that even after loosing profit from their server, it's still easily affordable.
For the small companies however, they're very much likely to die out. Bigger companies such as MCProHosting, GGServers, BeastNode and CreeperHost will be able to survive due to their already good amounts of profit. A company like Intreppid will be able to survive due to it's unique ways of offering Minecraft servers. But other companies have little to no chance.
Mojang, you're doing a really bad job.
Kind Regards,
A huge chunk of the hosting industry, and a huge chunk of server owners.

Good, now people will have to listen to my opinion because it not just an opinion anymore. In the dog days of 1.2.5 Tekkit there were crazy amount of servers that all they wanted is make money in the end.. I get there bills to be paid but if your going to buy a case of beer or something then it no longer the point of being donations and an actual server owner who is running a server for the right reason(s) can indeed survive this. You can have a good community to help you out with both the running and keeping those invoices at bay without selling even a single diamond. Now everybody on the server will have to start off with a wooden pickaxe if you know what I means.
As far as hosting industry, quality providers shouldn't even have to take a extra glance at this because they will be last ones standing. At the end of the day, this will be for the better, after all a game should be the place you can have fun not worrying about spending a monthly bill to beat that guy's base encased in diamond blocks. Therefore the money in your bank account will not matter, it matter how good and dedicated your are in the game as it should be.
Nuuuuuuuu. Minecraft Realms is taking over!! The only surviving servers! Nuuuuuu no more modded servers! WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Possible that i've misunderstood this but in Sacheverell's latest video he said selling perks is not illegal. You just can't overdo it and sell packages of 1-10k$. Or did they change that in the last 10 hours? I just woke up.
To put it simple it is illigal but mojang is not enforcing it and has not for 3 years, they are trying to find a middle point to restrict servers from selling perks for 1k but allow servers to sell perks. Watch this video it will tell you all about ithttp://www.minecraftforum.net/
Ok, you confirmed what I thought. This post is saying it's completely illegal now to accept donations (for items) on servers which is why I was confused.
Wait what, I am sorry are you an idiot? Minecade has 100 dedicated servers and you think they will get enough "donations" for that bill. They pay over 5k/Month if this does not change they will die, so will mineplex, hive, gotpvp, mcpvp and many more. Poeple may get enough "donations" to afford a 1gb server from mcprohosting but not mineplex. And yes everyone is worried MCProhosting is nexusmc is minecade all a bunch of big youtubers.
If all those big servers do die out, I guess that will mean more players for smaller servers, and good news for owners who really do strive to deliver an enjoyable Minecraft experience and not just make a profit. After all, this is a way to get rid of corrupt minecraft server owners whose only purpose is to make a profit from running a server, and the servers which will prevail through all of this will be those that morally want to benefit the player's Minecraft experience. Less servers will pop up that merely want to become big and make tons of money, which is kinda a good thing, and that's why I think Mojang want to implement this.
However there are also many problems including the hosting industry loosing customers which will mean some will close down and there will be less to choose from, and practically no new hosts will start up as demand in the minecraft hosting market will fall and the feasibility of making a profit or even breaking even from minecraft hosting will be low.
That brings me to my next point: Minecraft realms.
Some people think that Minecraft Realms is just a service for private servers with a few friends, but I believe Mojang has plans to make it for public servers too. With the plugin API, mods and plugins similar to those used in bukkit will be probably be available on Realms. It only makes sense that Mojang has been causing all these troubles for server owners, what with the delayed release of craftbukkit 1.7.2 and the UUID accounts system, it seems like Mojang is trying to streamline minecraft multiplayer through Minecraft Realms, and in doing so eliminate the hosting industry and all external minecraft servers. This will undoubtedly be bad news for everyone in the Minecraft community...
I mean, all they'd have to do would be to stop distributing the minecraft server software and only make it available through Realms, remove the Multiplayer button in the Minecraft home screen and replace it with the Minecraft Realms button and multiplayer as we know it would cease to exist.
And all that money will go rolling into the Mojang vault.
They didn't.
Its been illegal for some time now to sell items for real money on Minecraft servers. They only started enforcing it now because they have been getting alot of emails from angry parents about their kids being banned on a server they donated alot of money to.
Its looking like they will be keeping it that way.
... and only Factions (just an example, also Creative servers and such other sorts) servers will remain and all of them would use plugins downloaded from Bukkit or any other sources (because why would they need to spend time on developing something custom, if they won't get money from it???).
The point isn't to make money, it's to benefit the community. What I'm saying is that people should spend time developing something custom because they want to do so to give players a fun time on a great server, not for monetary profit. Modders don't make mods to gain a profit, they do so to provide different experiences to minecraft players, and what is truly rewarding is seeing someone having fun because of something you've made.
If someone creates a fun server where people enjoy playing, I'm sure they would be more than willing to donate without receiving any in-game rewards, simply to keep the server running. Yet money should not be the underlying principle when creating a server, and Mojang is trying to eliminate this so that people won't just think they can get rich quick by creating a server to sell items on it. People will actually try to make the server for the benefit of the community and without money as an objective.
I was asking where they confirmed it's completely illegal to sell stuff for your server. There have been tweets going around that you can still sell stuff on your server, Mojang only has a problem with the servers who are abusing this, I'm pretty sure.
Simple put, it was always illegal to do so but mojang were pretty lax about it. Just now they decided to take a stand against it. Those who say they still can sell is because mojang didn't finalise the new EULA yet. The only real difference I see is that they are more precise on what is considered selling parts of the game.

I am in total agreement with that, but like the problem with 'kiddie hosts' there are a number of people out there who think they can make an easy buck from a server/mod; essentially this influx of pay to win servers has caused the issue to arise with mojang.
Also the fact that people donate to a server should be purely on the fact that they enjoy the server, not for rewards.
On a slightly unrelated note: I saw some people saying that YouTubers will be gone since the new EULA will prevent them from earning any money. If I could add my two cents to this issue I would say someone was just being overly hysterical. Mojang clearly states here https://help.mojang.com/customer/portal/articles/1389657-youtube-monetization that making videos of the game is permitted and monetising is allowed, so they won't go out of a job since it doesn't really affect them.
If I'm wrong on any of this please do say, just without any vulgarity, will be much appreciated
