I think almost anyone would agree here - redstone is the most complicated thing in Minecraft, and if it is complicated for us, then imagine how complicated it is to code it. Mojang wanted to release this around the end of January, since then it has been extended a whole month. I don't know but I imagine they have been working non-stop to fix bugs, which I imagine are appearing in massive quantities. If they are working all of their working day fixing bugs, then the only time left is their free time, which I don't expect them to give up just to please a bunch of people who can frankly wait.
You have to think about just how much content they put out, and they do events and other things, plus they DO have lives outside of minecraft. Children and wives or husbands. They put out updates pretty often for how many mechanics these things have. Besides mod makers would most likely HATE more frequent updating! Just imagine if a mod maker were to finally put out the update for his/her mod for one minecraft update, and then a new one comes out! *this happened with mo creatures recently*. Sure lots of us do have wishes for updates to come sooner or for the minecraft team to release the update we want (come on Asthetic Update!) but in the end they do release a ton of content and all you have to do is buy the base game. I rest my case.
Posted this elsewhere: Scrolls and 0x10c are not being developed by the same team that develops minecraft so that's a non issue.
What's taking up their time is:
Business meetings
Sales pitches
Guest appearances
Interviews
New lighting engine
New launcher
New resource pack system
Mod API
Rewriting the game to use a higher opengl set while still maintaining a fallback for older software
Conferences
Developing new content
Squashing bugs
Real life
Remember this, they are humans who have friends, who have families, some have their own children, some are still studying, some have relatives who are sick and dying. It's a tough balancing act.
So to answer your question, they are not getting lazy. In fact they are less lazy than ever. They will never meet every-ones expectations because people tend to think only of how they see minecraft in the future. I know why you have made a statement like this though. the difference between 1.2 and 1.3 was big, and even bigger between 1.4 and 1.5. Unfortunately this isn't a simple maths equation where you would expect 1.6 to have even more content added compared to previous updates.
there have only been 3 updates for this javascript game.
Not to be picky. But it is java. Not javascript. There is a difference. OK? Good. I think you see less because they are focusing more on the mod api and resource packs. Which are actually huge updates. Also they have 1 less employee. Notch.
In my honest opinion, I think that the updates are coming out really slow. Over the course of a year, there have only been 3 updates for this javascript game. And now people are predicting that 1.5 is near, which is a shame, since the amount of content in this update, could have been made in a week by this community.
PS, as mentioned on previous posts, this is not a javascript game. Where on earth did you come to that conclusion? I'm sorry, but that reveals that the extent of your knowledge is an accumulation of the different opinions you've read on the internet. This invalidates your entire post because you can't have a real understanding of what it takes to write even a simple program, therefore you can't really grasp what goes on behind the scenes at Mojang.
Another thing, only 3 updates? I acknowledge that your post is outdated but each snapshot is an update on it's own so that also invalidates your post.
No they are not getting lazy! How would you know, do you live with them in Sweden? They are working very hard day and night so the updates can be spotless and as non-buggy as possible. How would like it if they didn't update at all?

I agree with that but now the 1.5.2 update is out, I think that there are a large amount of snapshots coming out and even if I download them, they will not work for me. For example, I really want to try out the 13w16a snapshot because horses were added, but it won't work for me. So I have to wait for the 1.5.3 update which is taking a while. I'm not a happy camper.
They're not getting lazy. They come out with an update and your'e just like "Oh great, a stupid little sound,". But they're working on stuff like mod API. 1.6 comes out this week and everyone's like "Oh my gosh, horses this is awesome," but sometimes the big work is behind the scenes
Also, really can't say I'm a fan of the argument that if you say you don't like a feature or two in an update, or are unhappy with Mojang, you're clearly an ungrateful sociopath with no lot in life. Seriously guys?
To be honest, I am kind of upset that this update was a month late. That is a pretty long time to be behind. It's just unprofessional compared to some other developers who work on games that also update frequently and have their content released on-time. Yes, I realize that Minecraft is an indie game and Mojang may not have every resource available to do whatever they want. But, Mojang said that they wanted to do updates about every two months, so promising that and then not delivering will of course be disappointing. I don't think that they're getting "lazy," it's just that they need to work better and do what they said they would do.
And if you think that we should be "grateful" for Mojang updating their game, while I am happy about getting new features, Mojang is a business, and their goal is to sell their game and appeal to a certain audience. If they did not update, they would quickly lose many of their players from boredom and Minecraft would lose a large part of its popularity, which is not good for business. Updating the game is a way to stay relevant and keep Minecraft attractive to new customers. They almost need to update to keep the game going, and therefore continue to make a profit. Minecraft it undoubtedly Mojang's most successful game, so they really should be giving it extra attention. It's not like they can get where they are with Minecraft with another one of their games like Scrolls, it's just not as popular. So these updates are not a free gift from the goodness of Mojang's heart. They have an incentive and somewhat of a need to do them as a company.

Thank you. I agree with much of what you said but couldn't find a way to phrase it without upsetting a great many people.
actually, some Mojangsters are working on two games *cough* Jeb *cough*.
