For example, not all cows need to be holstein cows, ya know?
- More mobs overall, on all types (passive, neutral, hostile), some ibome based, some not. Some should only be found underground at some depths (maybe that diamond layer would finally have show real level of challenge!)
I absolutely think Minecraft would benefit from more mobs. As for people saying we don't "need" new mobs:
Did we need ice spike biomes? How about savannas? Deep oceans? Clay mesas? Horses?
There's virtually nothing more you "need" in Minecraft, apart from bug fixes and improvements on old features.
That said, 1.8 was a biome update, and Jon Kagstrom talked about adding new mobs at Minecon in 2012; I recall he might have said it was even planned, but don't quote me on that. The video's on youtube, if you want to take a look, and it's also mentioned on the Minecraft wiki under planned features.
Yes. I'd seriously love to see new mobs in Minecraft. But we don't need mobs that spawn universally in the overworld; we could use more biome specific mobs. We have all these new biomes, but they feel really empty. I want a savanna biome to feel like a savanna biome, and an ocean to feel like an ocean...
More ores though? I don't want to have to deal with still more complexity in world generation; 1.7 is bad enough. At the very least, we could use a break, so that the structures we haven't even built yet in 1.7 (our server hasn't updated because Bukkit is still working hard) remain for quite some time. After a certain amount of time, I'd support more ores in Minecraft.
Please, DON'T. Polish the game first before adding more buggy features. I have no problem with one or two new mobs here, but I sincerely think bugfixing, polishing the game and paving the way for the Modding API should be top priority.

Of course, but a mob to go with that would be nice.
You know, you can do more than one thing with an update. I don't know why we need a bugfix themed update; we can have a lot more bugfixes, but still have a slightly more dominant theme.
I still want to see more mobs, but mobs that are essentially neutral unless provoked. With that, I think Mojang could make substantial improvements in neutral mob AI. Cows should stop walking off cliffs, wolves should stop porting to you six months after you told them to sit, cats should stop disappearing, etc. We could use improvements in horse, villager, wolf, cat, cow, pig, chicken, and sheep AI, and though I'm pretty sure we've recently had some fixes in how animals function in a pen, we could still use improvements so that they aren't even appearing to glitch through the walls. I don't know if this would mean changing how animals occupy tight spaces, but it's a bit annoying and could use some refinement.
With that, I think more mobs, and I don't mean hostile mobs, I again mean biome-specific mobs. Maybe they should prioritize bug fixes and make 1.8.1 a mob patch. Overall, 1.8 could focus on adding new mobs to make the overworld seem more vast, something they did with 1.7 and the addition of new biomes, but also deal heavily in improving mob AI, not really touching the hostile mob AI, which is already more refined and explored than that of neutral mobs.
If what received objection in my post above was the idea of new ores at some point in the future, I was mostly responding to a post above me, which (I believe) suggested new ores. I don't want to see new ores. I don't want any more code-wrecking terrain generation, and I don't particularly want to see major changes to terrain generation either. I'd want something like that to be in the very distant future.
I would, however, have no problem with Mojang deciding to release the mob update a long time from now, instead focusing on mod API in 1.7 patches. I don't think an entire update should be devoted to bug fixes, however. Refinements to existent content should probably be implemented in the form of patches rather than as new updates, which I think should be reserved for new content. That said, I'd be fine with waiting even until August or September of next year to see said mob update. If this is the case, which I think is the direction new content might take, there would be a lot to consider with the addition of new mobs- new item drops, AI behavior, spawning patterns, and so forth. Plus, Bukkit needs time to recover from the major coding changes 1.7 introduced, I would think, and Mojang could work on mod API as well in patches.
Hmm. As far as I am concern, the better AI update must be implemented in the 1.8 update, however, should not be released in the near future. That will give the coders some slack in their work, and for the modders in MCP to have some time to adapt and tinker to the new coding system of 1.7.2. . But, yes, the new biomes need more love ( mobs ), but not necessarily in the next update.
I have a strong opinion that viewable fish shouldnot be implemented. Ever. Unless they found a way to create thousands of fish in the ocean without generating too much which will cause minecraft to crash and/or cause major FPS drop. As same with the hostile mobs in the ocean.
Also, back to AI, neutral mobs should have a calculating system ( just like the mobs for cacti ) that if there is no blocks within two blocks they should turn around. And another thing that they should polish is the wheat luring. It is especially hard to make them come to the fence gate/s; Especially in high numbers.

hmmm, i do see your point. and there is a possibility that they will add mobs in the next update, a boss mob im not sure about though. the reason im saying this though is because ive looked at the 1.7.2 code and it appears that they changed some things with mobs that will make them easier for mojang to create. so you never know.

Really? that's great!
Although this isn't technically a new mob, a new deadly combo may be added next update - baby jockeys.
I Totally Agree. I think Minecraft should add more Sea Animals
Sea Turtles
Fish (Ones you can SEE)
Manta Ray (Hostile)
Seahorse (Rideable)
Sharks
Whales
Killer Whales
and new variations of already made animals- Not all cows are brown and white, and not all pigs are Pink.
I see the pattern you present. I doubt we'd get mobs, but hey, you never know.
I personally predict guess that more building materials, maybe a new light source or two. Of course, that's purely a guess.

My avatar-Madison Gotha. She knows various weapons, she's a mage/sage, and is somewhat immortal. Madison has the capability of taming and communicating monsters, a genetic trait passed down by her father. 26 physically, 1400-something mentally, and a Lofty Peakian/Zenithian mix. Doesn't really like being called an elf and hates being called human..
I might be Moderator, but don't bother treating me too special. And don't make tons of Ban Hammer jokes, please. Also, I'm an Off-Topic only Mod. Don't ask me to lock a thread or something if it's not in the off-topic
if I had to guess, I would say it would involve the new biomes. things that could only be found in certain biomes, and would allow you to do new things, not easier, just new. An update should add in something new to do, not just make things easy, a bit like the nether update. that gave players something new to explore. whatever it is, I'm sure, mojang will do it perfectly.
