So we have got our first 3 new stones, and they have completly change how caves look. They all so give us more to mine witch is a god send. What do you guys hope we will see next cystals, rubys new ores???
He could have been saying yes to the underground part.
Mind you, I HOPE he meant yes to ores and caverns. I've been wanting this FOREVER.
Literally since the week I joined Minecraft.

Same here, but the guy asked about caves and ore in genreal and he said yes. This is pretty much a black and white issue
I know many players enjoy the swisscheese caves but I hope they make the cave system more structured and adventurous instead of random slop (same goes for the Nether, it's just a jumbled mess).
Can't wait to hear more. I just hope the 1.8 update doesn't delay Optifine as much as 1.7...

It would be neat if there was more type of underground structures like stronghold and mines
Underground cavern pools , stalagtites , stalagmites , phosphorus caverns...caves and caverns in real life are far from plain or boring , with many of them being quiet spectacular . Just a few little additions to the underground would make it completely worth exploring just to find cool little areas with nice formations . Even without any new ores or harvestable items , or changes to the swiss cheese system...this would be an addition I would love to see put into the game .
The coloured light thing was not "official", MogMiner did a video of that for fun back in the summer, he said we shouldn't expect it for 1.8.
As for myself I wouldn't mind flooded cave sections: no hostile mobs but going in armed with water breathing and night vision potions without knowing just how much underwater exploring is ahead could be quite the trip.
the underground needs MILLIONS of additions, glowing mushrooms, new mobs (hostile and passive) more structures, temples, dungeons, tombs and the like
and goblins
Yes, we need some more structures and neat things to find underground. And of course goblins Imagine if there were rare underground goblin cave-cities, replete with tons of lootable junk (I mean treasure) and a big bad goblin king boss! Or, if you were smart and didn't them off, perhaps they would even be an alternate path to trade like in Arx Fatalis? I'd welcome some non-sissy villager types that might also be randomly hostile, maybe you'd need to give them something to calm them down I dunno...
Anyways, I hope they're adding more than just granite to the underground.
Ruby, Fire opal and a made up mineral. Preferably using my avatar as the texture.
Those are the ORES I'd like most.
Mercury and oil are minerals I'd like.
That's just fine. But asking for ores without giving an actual use isn't useful at all. It's like saying "add stuff!". What do you want ruby for? Fire Opal, why? Just because you like them isn't good enough. And oil... what's it going to be used for? We already have in redstone a power source. And Mercury!? I don't even...
I don't want any of that crap. Ores are fine as it is. They need to work about and around the existing blocks and be imaginative about their uses. More uses to existing game elements trumps new game elements with limited or no use at all. In other words, we need high-level additions to Minecraft that allow us to truly expand the gameplay. It's been mods like Better Than Wolves, Red Power and others than have been the only real contributor in this area. Mojang throughput has been frankly disappointing pretty much since after pistons were added to the game. I'd like for that to change for once.

I was trying to think of a signature and this is what came up.

personalty ruby would work perfectly with the new updates with enchantments, seeing how gold is just a place holder

Yeah. I've seen it mentioned before. But that's only going to contribute to the current problem we have of materials with little to no use. Soon enough we will complain Ruby has no uses, because using it to buy enchantments isn't good enough. And Mojang with be left with one more poisoned potato in their hands; yet another Block or Item ID on their list of Things To Try And Find Some More Uses For. All because at first it really sounded fine to add Ruby as an enchantment currency.
I mean, look at gold already. One of the reasons I'm seeing listed in support of Jeb's possible option for gold is that gold as no uses. Gold, has no uses!? Imagine what they will say about your ruby in a few months time?
Let's work with what we have. Emeralds are already pretty much associated with enchantments since they are used by some players to purchase enchanted weapons and armor from villagers (pretty much the only use we have for the crappy villager trading system, and that's saying too much). So let's use emeralds, if people really want to have this whole business of including something more than XP in their enchantment table.

Or use nether quartz, a purely aesthetic and abundant block that also conveniently gives lots of xp. It would also give more of a reason for people to go into the Nether. That being said, I'm not really keen on adding material requirements to enchanting.
Btw, nice analogy with the poisoned potato - is there anything more pointless in MC?
