Kinda funny how horribly casual this community is, this is just silly. I agree with the complaints that it just makes the zombies annoying, because they're really a challengless mob with how they're designed at current. God you people are freakin casual as hell.
I'm sorry, but am I to assume you play Minecraft professionally or something, as opposed to casually? I'm really confused. You're being ironic, yes?
I (Disclaimer: This is not to be taken as this The End period. Just stating my opinion) like this adjustment (Not nerf) just because it was getting really old when a zombie swarm came at you.

Let me put it this way for those of you who disagree. Do you dislike 42? No?

And now to see all the people who personally attacked Dinnerbone's character react to the news. Actually, I doubt I'll see any reaction at all and, if any, it normally sticks the progression of, "He's bad and he should feel bad." to, "I'm getting what I wanted? Well, he's still a bad person who doesn't care."
More attention to difficulty scaling should make the game more rewarding for pretty much everyone, whether you love, hate, or don't care about the zombiepocalypse. Yet some people on this forum just love any excuse they can find to complain about absolutely nothing and make assumptions about things that haven't even happened yet... I just don't understand people sometimes. Sounds good to me, he's acknowledging that the levels could use some tweaking and subtlety. (Notice he never said "I'm going to totally remove zombie mobs and nerf every difficulty down to Peaceful so only 5-year old babies will want to play it.") What, exactly, is there to complain about?
It's interesting to see "hardcore" gamers getting that into Minecraft at all, personally. If they can add some more to the Hard difficulty to give them what they want, cool! Have at it! But Minecraft was popular before it even had a survival mode; hard to argue that the player base isn't largely casual. Hopefully they will get better at finding a balance.
. To want to dumb it down further is just...a mindnumbingly awful decision. If hard is too hard for people they should play normal . Hardmode isn't meant to be easy so people brag to their friends about playing on "hard" or to feel important.
I'm quite certain that mercifully few people want Hard mode to be easier. Nobody is asking for anything more than to make normal and easy modes forgivable again.
But let's be fair about something here. The new zombie AI in this update isn't more difficult. It's just more. It's just way too much more. You're not fighting different zombies, you're fighting the same zombies. Just.. more of them. So I hope that this is a sign that Dinnerbone will come up with a way to actually make zombie difficult, instead of just more numerous.
Zombies not spawning behind each other and in safe zones.
That's all I really want.
Vanilla minecraft does not offer 'safe zones' so I doubt they would cater for this. Ask your server admin to learn how to use world guard, then he/she can set a mob-spawning flag.
*yawns* - Really? Just adapt and kill them all. Have skeletons snipe them . Sure, it is annoying but once you adapt and fend them off it's easy again.
But...this...is...happening...in...EASY!!! Do you not know what easy means? I hope you're only referring to the nerfs that may be made in hard, because there is no excuse for these zombies being so annoying in easy and normal difficulty.

He's talking about lit up areas...

To all of you people who think Notch is still working on the game, he stopped working on Minecraft in late 2011. Get your facts straight and stop spamming his twitter about Minecraft updates.

Safe zones are generally considered as places where hostile mobs won't spawn. (I.e lit up areas, half blocks, etc)
I'm neither up nor down about the zombies themselves at the moment, I play on a server where I'm pretty well-established, so they're not too much of a concern (though I can see how frustrating they must be for folk who prefer single-player and restart their worlds often).
However - the lag they're causing at the moment is just silly. I'm getting a serious dip in fps near my home area at the moment, which I assume is due to underground zombies trying to path to a nearby village and messing it up. Hope something about *that* gets tweaked to improve it.

xD thats pretty much what I said at the bottom of the last page, they're a poorly designed and unchallenging mob as they are.
Good news. Adjusting the AI based on difficulty setting simply makes sense - otherwise, what is the distinction between Easy, Normal, and Hard. This way if I want to face the horde onslaught I'll switch to Hard, if I want a couple of Zombies calling for milk and golden apples I'll switch to Easy. Switching to Peaceful means no neighbors besides villagers. And that's just too lonely.
What part of "They don't scale well to difficulty right now" you people don't understand? Jesus Christ, I'll never understand why so many people in this "community" is eager to shove their own gaming style down other people's throat.
And now to see all the people who personally attacked Dinnerbone's character react to the news. If he's going to sit on top of the juggernaut that is Minecraft, he'd better be prepared for some .
I'm not convinced anyone is getting what they wanted from Dinnerbone. He barely implied he'd look into it. Meaning maybe he'll change it, and maybe he won't. And maybe he'll make it better, or maybe he'll just make it worse.
Not to mention, "what the community wants" differs from player to player. He might make some people happy, but he probably can't make most people happy. And that's fine, if people have complaints, those are legitimate. Like I said, if you're going to try and steer the ship that is Minecraft, you have to have thick skin.
I still don't think Dinnerbone actually plays Minecraft.
One last point I'll make about the zombies: some aspects I like. I do like having to fight off hordes. I don't like that a stupid zombie has supernatural detection abilities. I don't like how villages are essentially doomed by one night. I don't like how baby zombies circumvent all the stuff that was supposed to help players escape from zombies. Other than those things though, I'm fine.

I think you are going to love my Survival Let's Play series on YouTube! It's called Spaceboot1's Garden. I make pretty things.

I can't speak for what anyone else said, but I know I said some pretty harsh things about him.
I still stand by most of what I said. Admitting to and fixing an obvious mistake only after tons of public outcry, does not make you a good developer. Not making obvious mistakes in the first place is what makes you a good developer.
And for the record, before anyone rips into me for this, the "mistake" I'm referring to is not the inclusion of new AI for zombies. It's not really his fault if people don't like how he tried to make them harder -- he tried something to increase the difficulty, and had to wait for a reaction to see how it worked. That I completely understand, and have no problem with.
The real mistake he made, was including this new AI across all the difficulty settings. That was flat-out stupid, and releasing 1.6 in that state was simply wrong. You don't add in a feature that only a (arguably small) percentage of the player base wants, and force it on everyone.
We'll see how he actually fixes the mess he made. If he actually removes all the new AI completely from at least the "Easy" setting, that will be a good start. Trying to adjust how the new AI works for the Hard setting (in an attempt to make it more "fun hard" than "annoying hard") would just be icing on the cake.
I look forward to the change. I welcome improvements that make the game more difficult if that corresponds to what difficulty setting you have set. For "Hard" above, make the zombie hordes absurd. However, for users on "Normal", it did seem excessive. I walled off all nearby towns and added two golems in each town and could barely keep up with the zombies. The game is not supposed to be focused on killing hordes of zombies, which is why it should be changed and balanced. If we want to add more difficulty, add something to another mob rather to making zombies flat out ridiculous.
There are two purposes in this game, building and surviving. Surviving out in the wild is a big broad term that can mean a lot more than zombies. This is why "hunger" (although many folks seemed to hate it) matched up with the game because it is something you deal with when surviving off the land. Safety indoors at night is another great foundation of this game and should remain that way. I'm just saying they can do it better ways than adding buffs to zombies. (i.e. Skeleton improvement was good)
I still don't think Dinnerbone actually plays Minecraft.
He was an active member of the community and worked on the development of Bukkit and hMod before he became a Mojang developer. Why would someone put that much time and effort into a game they don't actually play? This sentence made absolutely 0 sense whatsoever.
