Im kinda hoping that a friends list would be implemented, but its probably something compeletly different that what we are thinking.
It might be, as they did add a friends list to scrolls, updated their database for it, and stated that the friends list would be universal in their games.
I'm assuming it's voice chat. A friends list wouldn't be in the options menu, and I would think a name-change would be on either the Mojang or Minecraft website, not in Options.
"Community" feature? Finally the long-awaited name-changing, perhaps?
I would have thought that they would put that on the minecraft website.

There are plugins in bukkit for name changing I believe dinnerbone can implement that ingame only by changing something in game and server code without changing "web stuffs"
Yes, but our names are registered in the database as they are now. Changing a name on all servers would require changing our name in the database. That's why offlinemode servers are such a problem with "hacking" because you can log in with any name offline.
Very well could be, but isnt MC Realms basically just a pay service to get a small server for friends/family to enjoy and not some huge community-wide feature?
voice chat. i mean, come on, that button could easily be "mic configuration", and the fact that a dev said it will help the community communicate almost confirms it.

I just fear for the servers. The bandwidth will increase 3 fold if voice chat doesn't run client to client instead of client-server-client.

now that i think about it, we may get both a friends system AND voice chat, as to prevent server overload. I would imagine friends would be able to hear each other, allowing effective client-to-client voice chat. plus, it would prevent minecraft servers becoming cod servers full of 5-10 year olds being complete idiots. who agrees?
-I do not mean to offend 5-10 year olds. it's just that the majority are rather obnoxious.

I also think that servers would NEED the option to enable it and disable it and maybe even for Bukkit users add a permission node for it so not everyone can use it. Also give the voice chat an option of being radius specific instead of global chat.

Why of course! I wouldn't want it to be stuck at 30 blocks or something like that. Maybe even give it a distancing effect where the further you are the quieter you hear it?

What are you talking about?

I hope. I'd like name changing ONLY to capitalize the first letter of my name in game!!! Having it say "codewow" instead of "Codewow" is annoying me.

Awe okay

In my honest opinion, it's probably voice-chat. IT IS AWESOME.
And it's about time!

I also don't think Dinnerbone would be the one coding the name change feature as that's more the web/database guy's job, but who knows.
