Terrible idea. Free updates are the way to go with an open game like Minecraft. The modding community would have to be destroyed for such a system to work, and you'd have massive compatibility issues. For example, Bob can't upgrade, so he is stuck in 1.6. All Bob's friends are in 1.7, and so they update their server to 1.7. Now Bob can't play with them anymore. Bob complains.
It would be a terrible business strategy for Mojang, imo.
My god if 1.7 and onwards costed money, I would stay in 1.6 with the boring terrain forever.
Mojang would lose all business. It would be company suicide.
For the love of god, don't give Mojang any ideas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There have already been thought out arguments on why this would be a bad idea. Surely Mojang wouldn't ruin their own company by doing this, so nothing to worry about.
So no, micro-transactions are impossible to keep away from free vs. non free players. You would have to run an MMO with server sided inventory database, as a result, costs more money.
You do realize most micro-transaction oriented games do this? TF2 does it, Maplestory does it, 99% RS does it, you name it.
All the FTP scumbaggy MMO games do it- it would be stupid to have client-side inventory.
Minecraft fans with nothing to do become bored.
Bored Minecraft fans post stupid threads.
Stupid threads posted by MC fans spread rumors.
This is one of those threads.
Can't wait to see "FUTURE UPDATES COST MONEY".
Dude you sound very angry...... I was merely asking people's opinions about it O-o. People who have great knowledge and experience in economics and what not have stated clear and precise reasons why it wouldn't be a good idea for future updates to cost money. So yeah I have no idea why you seem so angry.
If this thread is stupid then knowledge and opinions must be stupid too.

My point is that people will be scrolling and see this topic title. Than they will go tell someone that future
updates will cost money. Then so on.. until you have yourself a nice little rumor.
By the way, I wasn't tryin' to be mean. Even though it might seem like I was. : )
