1) Any time a change is made to the generator, worlds implode anyway.
2) A very (seemingly) easy workaround is to just keep the current generator as a worldtype, but make it inaccessible. Set all "default" worlds to this worldtype. Presto! Worlds don't break.
To be honest, i'd prefer a more advanced yet unpolished mob. Minecraft (at least in alpha/beta when there wasn't much polishing going on) was always going for gameplay over graphics. An advanced, yet unpolished, mob would be much more Minecrafty than an auxiliary mob.
Minecrafty or not, I still like bats (besides the sound effect that at first I thought was a bug) but i'd rather see an advanced, unpolished mob than a basic, polished one.
I prefer basic and polished, fits into minecraft more. Do you think there's any way bats could be improved? (except drops, that would be stupid)

Not much room for improvement, since it's just a basic aesthetic mob. The only ideas I have either break it out of aesthetic mob territory or require new (aesthetic) mobs.
IMO, though, Minecraft needs more complex mobs. We have barely any mobs that have a decent AI (so mobs can walk around walls... woo).

Did something happen to you in your childhood to give you this unreasonable fear of rutabaga?
I for one would be excited to see new mobs in the deserts. Sure you have plenty of hostile mobs at night due to the wide open flatness of most deserts, but in the day they're kind of depressing.
Something like Vultures, which would work like chickens but would circle overhead or land on the highest ground they could find, scattering if the player came close. I'd like to see them perched on houses made in the desert. They would lay eggs in either the little dead shrubs, or in new rare and randomly generated dead trees (which would have a spooky greyish wood). Eggs would work like chicken eggs but spawn baby vultures (which would just be gross), You could get raw poultry and feathers from killing them as well, the poultry would work just like chicken (or maybe have a small % of food poisoning even after cooking). To kill a vulture you would either have to shoot it out of the sky with a bow or lure it by dropping rotten flesh. They would descend to pick up rotten flesh, and ignore you for a few seconds so you could hit it with a close-range attack.
I also support more life in the oceans, but that'll need to be done right. The desert is supposed to be lifeless, sure, but I for one would enjoy spending time there with a regional, dynamic mob. As someone who likes to play exclusively with large biomes, The desert is such a sad place that I would otherwise enjoy building in.
Yep, nature, ocean, terrains...whatever anyone says, those areas could use a lot more depth. If you say all the good mobs have been made already, I'd say you just don't have an imagination.
And I don't get why people WANT mobs to be aesthetic. Sure, the bat is nice, and we all like like seeing it around. But wouldn't it be BETTER if it had a use -- if it could be involved with the game somehow? Don't ask for aesthetic mobs, ask for beautiful mobs. Because mobs can be pretty and helpful at the same time.
And if you say the bat has no conceivable use, I have only one thing to say to you. You can probably guess what it is.
I'd like to see more mobs, but only if they add something interesting to the game. At the moment most of the non-hostile mobs provide something slightly unique (eg. leather from cows, feathers from chickens, ink from squid), and the standard hostile mobs each present a different sort of challenge (eg. zombies are heavy infantry, skeletons are archers, creepers are artillery, spiders are ambushers). While I don't hate the bats, as many have pointed out, they don't really add anything much to the game.
So, I think a standard flying hostile mob would be interesting - maybe a vampire bat? Their strengths would be flight, and the ability to get to places that other mobs couldn't and the hardness to hit that comes from that, and perhaps a weak draining ability - healing themselves every time they get a hit in. Their weaknesses would be low overall health and the need to land every now and again for a brief rest, leaving them vulnerable.
Then they are a different sort of challenge to existing mobs - players would have to make good use of the bow, or learn to be patient and wait for them to land until striking, in order to kill them. Also, defending homes and bases would require some extra thought to stop them getting in - maybe even introduce new things that could help defend. Something like a magic turret that autofires at hostile mobs, although that would probably be too powerful.
To be fair, the new Skeletons are pretty difficult without a bow so I think that fills that niche.
A hostile flying mob would definitely be pretty interesting, so I wouldn't mind it. As long as its patterns aren't too all over the place.
Vultures
Vultures would fly around in the sky in a circling pattern. When you are low in health and almost dead, they would fly closer to you. They would perch on top of things (not on the ground kinda like high peaks and buildings) I guess they could drop feathers or something. they would be passive. Mummies
I was thinking that this would kinda be like a zombie. But instead of both arms out maybe one could be slightly pointed down. They would have a limping movement and they wouldnt burn up (because of their bandages) Maybe there could be a mummy spawner in a desert temple that spawns them of they just spawn in deserts. they would make moaning sounds but not likee a zombie. they could drop rotten flesh maybe. they would be hostile. Ghosts
I don't know how people would react to this kind of mob but it seems cool. This could add a whole new difficulty because since they are ghosts, you cant hit them. They could be a mob that you can only run from and they die in the sunlight? they'd drop nothing... cause there ghosts. They would also fly so that would make it hard. they would be hostile. Fish
I don't need to say much about this one. It spawns in water and drops 1 fish when killed. Could spawn in schools of about 5-8 or something. Bees
I think this would be cool because it could add new blocks and items too. A bee would be a small mob that flies around making buzzing noises. It could either spawn by flowers or a new block called a Bee hive. A bee hive could hold a colony of maybe 10-20 bees. they would be neutral unless u hit one of them or destroy their hive. you can collect the hive and make it into one of those bee house things. Because the bees will spawn by flowers, you can farm them. They would make honey/honeycomb which could be eaten or used for something else. If you right click the hive it would every now and them drop a honey/honeycomb Red Dragon
I don't have to say much here. But maybe a tower would spawn on a hight peak in a mountain biome (very rare) On top would be the red dragon. You would need to fight it and If you win, then you can tame it. (Not gonna be easy at all ) and when it is tamed you could get a saddle and rid it? Just my opinion. Beavers
Would spawn in swamps. They would be seen gnawing on wood and trees. they could change a wood block into a smaller wood block (kinda like a fence but not a fence) when killed they could drop fur. maybe you could make fur clothing out of it?
I hope that you guys liked my ideas! I have more ideas but I don't feel like typing them in now... maybe later.

I support this. That and they could also add a few more passive mobs that drop different food :/. Also they could finally fix the world generation and add some new structures. Oh and finally get the Mod API out.

I agree with all of these accept the red dragon. I wish people would forget about it or at least stop asking for it, it gets old.

I wrote a book! Check it out here: https://www.blackrosewriting.com/scififantasy/harrani
I have to agree with this, oceans are the only part of minecraft that feel really incomplete to me.

Uh... Wolves? Granted they attack you if they attack them but they are predatory towards sheep.
