Terrain update?! The terrain is fine as it is, and tampering with it would only screw up all of the seeds like it did back in, oh, 1.8, 1.0, 1.1, and 1.2.4.
It's far, far too predictable. There's no variety and no reason to explore outside of structures, and even those are boring.

Did something happen to you in your childhood to give you this unreasonable fear of rutabaga?

That also sounds dumb. I know there won't be an overhaul after release 1.9, but do you remember when beta/alpha reached the point of 2.0? It just rolled back around to 1.0. There will probably be another release or something, or they will resort to micro updates like Apple did with Mac OS.
The reason it rolled back to 1.0 is because it was an alpha going into beta, and a beta into release. In the future, we could see a 1.10, or a 1.11. I doubt we'll ever see a 2.0, unless it's something completely different. Versions are:
-Enderberries
-Wrestlers
-Aquatic life
-Bamboo Forest biome
-Nether wart item (drop from nether wart, edible and get seeds from it
-ender chest drops ender chest without silk touch (it can get very annoying rekilling two really rare mobs)
-dojos
-more golems
-no starvation
-at least one ender ore
And more

It was suggested that Minecraft might have all content tweaked into plug-ins in some manner. In other words, even things that are mundane like cobblestone, oak trees, and dirt would be made into plug-ins with the API architecture. In other words, everything would be a "plug-in" with standard blocks merely shipped with Minecraft as "pre-installed" plug-ins. Assuming that happens, it would be a major overhaul of the Minecraft architecture that would more than justify a genuine "2.0" version number.
Just saying that you should never say never on something like this. Assuming they also switch to cubic chunks and overhaul the file format as well, it would be a true 2.0 version of the game.

I've seen the IRC logs. I know what they intend it to eventually be. I don't think it will include every block, but we'll see where they plan on taking it. I actually hope that they implement that at some point, so that we don't get the constant influx of "I don't like X feature, please do Y instead."

The rules of decimals don't apply.
...but that's just like, my opinion, man.
Leather chain armor is in the unimplemented category

Version 2.1 now updated for MC 1.6.2
