New content to hold you off until....the end of time.
Not even remotely true. Do you realize the amount of effort the mod api is going to take to come even close to something 'final'? Coding such an extensive api is difficult and incredibly time-consuming. Tell you what, start writing your own mod api for Minecraft, that does everything Mojang's will, and let's see who finishes first.
You just came up with the most pathetic comeback.
"Make your own"
Get out of here.
They have been supposedly "working" on this for a year. It doesn't take a year to make an API.
They haven't been working on it for a year. They have been planning it for a year.
I know, based on past posts by you, that you are a bit of an angry and impatient dude. And I know telling you to 'chill out' is probably not going to help the situation. But this API is probably not going to be released for a while and no amount of raging or accusations is going to make it go any faster.
I recommend either taking a break from Minecraft and/or reading Minecraft news until at least the end of the year or until you've calmed down a bit. Otherwise I think you are likely to explode.
Far be it from me to tell you what to do though. If you wish to continue your rant posts, feel free.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Do you want it done right or done fast? They mentioned in the PAX interview about the mod API, basically they are talking to modders and they have to do it right the first time because once it's released they do not have much room to tweak it.

They are rewriting a few HUGE parts of the game, they need to get those things working correctly before they can implement an API, because if they do an API on top of shitty code it will be hell to maintain + will probably break everything when they finally fix it. If they do it right and clean up everything before adding the API everything will run more efficiently, better FPS for everyone, and Mod support will be awesome.
So while Jeb rewrites the game, Dinnerbone is adding content so the rabid fans will have something to chew on while we wait.
I would rather new vanilla content than an API that is only useful for those who rely on mods.
Ah, but you see, with Mods being official a MUCH bigger number of people will use them. Not to mention all the servers that will use them! It's hard to find a server without McMMO, and I'm sure there will be a GUI mod for it (with XP bars), that most servers will require. But it will be simple, hit join and the Mod will download directly to your Mods folder, and your good to go.
In other words, after the API pretty much everyone will use mods of some type.
Sweet. All this means is that we get an update after the new rendering engine and such is finished probably.
Then I can guess the API will be the major focus.
Either way I'm already happy with 1.4

Don't play vanilla? You don't know **** about minecraft.

Your sig kind of bugs me.
But anyways, Yeah I'd much rather see the render-engine rewrite if it means lighting glitches fixed/better performance, as well as various misc. bugfixes.
New features are nice, and if it's not even possible to work on the Mod API at full blast there's no reason to not introduce new features.

I probably still won't.
Except for allocators because they're amazing.
I'll still probably just use vanilla though

Allocators are no longer the future, we have Hoppers now. I still like them, though.
I don't think most of you people realize the possibilities an API brings about.
There won't be a need for official updates once an API comes out.
Stop accepting pushbacks. We've been strung along with a carrot on a stick for over a year now with the API, enough is enough.
If that's how Mojang sees it, I hope we don't get an API. Ever.
Seriously. "Instead of getting decent updates from mojang, I want crappily made unnoficial updates with flying pigs and purple wheat"
Is not something I would stand for. I was kinda looking forward to the API, but now I'm doubtful.
No API in 1.4, I'm a little shocked. I wonder when they planned to break the news. I personally don't care and I'm honestly not surprised, but I know a lot of people around here aren't going to be happy about that news. Seems like they should have broke that news at the panel.

BECAUSE NO ONE WANTS NEW CONTENT
WE ALL WANT SOMETHING THAT ONLY AFFECTS PEOPLE WHO USE MODS

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..
