TL;DR - Hate updates, rushed, no bug fixes, 1.7.3-1.8.1 golden ages.
They are fixing bugs/glitches, but when they add new content or change the way things are, it can cause bugs/glitches. Bugs and glitches will be around as long as they change the game, it's just a factor of life.
Honestly, every game has bugs the ones who have less either don't have that much content or they just made the game and ironed it out, which for Minecraft would suck part of the reason I personally like Minecraft is because they continue to develop the game.
You know, I have a brilliant idea for a mod. I call it "Optioncraft" Basically, the mod adds in a new menu that has options for EVERYTHING. Things like the hunger bar and old terrain to those old minecart boosters and whether or not you are a whiny little b!*C#.
Whoever makes that mod would be RICH! Or, you know, they would have a bit more pocket money.
You guys .
OK then, let's get Mojang to continuously add new content in every update no matter what!

I was replying about cake. If it wouldn't make me fat, I'd eat cake all the time. Cake is awesome.
Also, some new content is necessary. Like with the Oceans. They're larger than most biomes and empty. They could use some love.
The cake is a lie.
The pie is not a lie.
I am ninja'd far too often.
Yes, THAT. They need to add more to existing features, that is.

Not all the time. Nothing is "good" always, unfortunately.

CAKE IS ALWAYS GOOD
On topic, I would also like to see an update that makes the game more challenging.
Bugfixes are good, but so far 1.3.2's been pretty stable for me at least. If bugfixes include fixing the lighting and other things so the Mod API can get rolling, I'd prefer that.
Also, enough with the MMORPG-esque features for a while, please. They're good in moderation but it's starting to feel like everything else is being marginalized by them.
Praise be to Spode.
If you have a sense of novelty on content then be prepared for any consequences.
Then replace "cake" with something else. I just wanted it as an example!
Basically you can't just stuff the game up with new content all the time and assume then people will like it always.

If I were Dinnerbone, working on the terrain would be my #1 priority. He has acknowledged the problem (thus, sliders), but i'm just worried that he'll go about it wrong as there are a lot of people on the boring terrain threads that want it to be exclusive to creative.
If I wanted a new update, it would be COMPLETELY focused on terrain. That's right; from 1.4's release to Christmas, the only thing I want Dinnerbone (and Mojang for that matter) to be developing is the terrain and terrain sliders.
If I couldn't get that, I would at least like a bugfixing update (one that doesn't end up terribly like 1.6).
I'd say that overall 1.4 is an okay update. Some things are good (bats), some things need tweaking (certain sounds), and some things need a complete overhaul (witch huts and the Wither). It's no 1.8, that's for sure, but it's not Beta 1.3/Release 1.3 either.
Then mix and create the Environment Update!
