I really think think this a case of change causing delusional thinking. Has anyone who hates the new terrain played 1.7.3 in a while? I have, just yesterday. It sucks.
Besides, why the hell would I want swamps/plains/oceans/tundra to have giant hills in them? If I want elevation, I travel to jungles/extreme hills.

I use the FTB modpack, because it's fun, and extremely convenient.
Wait, so people are actually complaining about new options?
This sounds awesome, I can't wait to try it out. I've not got time to read the middle of the thread right now, will you be able to customize what happens within certain biomes, no, or am I misunderstanding this feature entirely?
If this has been asked and answered in the middle of the thread, just disregard this. I'll go back and read when I get time.
Well, you know how some people in the minecraft community are:
"I didn't get the thing I wanted, so this (coming) update sucks!"
No patience, no empathy, no class.
This upcoming change to the superflat world type seems to be geared primarily towards the creative community, allowing them options besides a completely flat world and a the typical random map. I've done a couple creative projects, so I can see the appeal of having better control over how your creative world takes shape, besides doing everything by hand.
My point is that the old generator wasn't "cool", it produced "mountains" that looked more like bent thumbs and put flat ground NOWHERE.
This generator produces flat ground with random mounts of rock and dirt that are supposed to be hills with the occasional mountain biome that produces mountains that look more like broken thumbs than anything. Did I mention the three-block biome transitions, the lack of biome variety, the endless caves, the underwater geology, and the hideous grass colors?
Seriously, there were basically no large flat areas. Terraforming was necessary to build anything large, but the fastest we could mine at was "Unenchanted diamond pickaxe" so no one ever built cool houses EXCEPT IN MIDAIR OR THE OCEAN WHERE THERE WASN'T ANY TERRAIN IN THE WAY.
Because adding a better terrain generator will remove superflat

Chaos put it quite well.
Then why don't you play Alpha?
Honest question.

The Internet is a big place, friend. I've been places you've n͍̺e̩v̦e̦̰͍͓̩ͅr̜̭̝̬̬͉̤̬ ͙ịm̖͇a͍͇̤͙̥g̤̘i͔͖̤̼̪̬n͖͔̳̬̯e̩̘ḓ͈͔̠̙͇̼̯.͎
That is 1.7.3's generator.
I just wanted to make sure.
That is not a very big flat area.
Big enough for whatever you need. And if it isn't? Terraform or use superflat.
The trees weren't planted. They were naturally generated.
