It's a blessing that he wouldn't let them. Optifine lags up my game.
How does that even... what? I don't... huh? How could that... with the things... how does...?
Well ok then. Still, it gives other players FPS boosts that they may need to make the game playable without it looking like a foggy square hell. So it's be good if they added it.
Although not so much for you, obviously...
If he/she seriously did, then they are an idiot. They modified Mojang's game, so Mojang is allowed to do whatever they please with the code. I guess it does show that Mojang is a nice company that respects the modders.
I know, it's like:
*Mojang takes Optifine and puts it into vanilla*
Maker of Optifine says: "Hey, you stole my code, I am going to sue".
Mojang: "Hey, you stole our code, we are going to sue"
Hum, I wonder who would win.
The thing is, modders have no rights, as what modders do is technically illegal, but it is really nice that Mojang has respect for the modders
more OT: I don't really care, but I think that it would be better if they "saved" the second Halloween update until that are actually putting new awesome stuff in the nether.

That's just it. Skulls... The Wither... Nether portal changes... The changes to Netherwart that so many people disagreed with, because the lack of Nether content... Come on. It's hard to believe that they're NOT working on the Nether at this point.
I disagree with redstone (back on the last page). I think that a game with more features would be AWSOME! I heard Jeb talking about adding more animals such as fish and birds! that would be would be great. I also love mods, so the modding api would be great! I would also like a more fleshed out nether, or another realm. Skylands maybe? it would be good if they added biomes and new ores to the nether. An idea I have for a biome is ash-snow. I would also like more plants other than mushrooms and netherwart, maybe some kind of nether tree?

True, but they would still need to add quite a bit for it to be even close to the first Halloween update in terms of nether stuff, but yeah, they are working on the nether which is nice to see, if they prioritize more nether stuff then they could make it the second Halloween update, of course, that would be two months away, so they could add a lot of stuff in that time.
More Off topic: I am just bummed, because it seems that Mojang always releases the best new content in snapshots right after a big update
Optifine makes me LOSE dozens of FPS. You heard me. The only way to make it give me the normal amount of FPS is by making my settings much lower than what they are in normal Minecraft. If Jeb added Optifine to Minecraft, I'd have to stop playing.
My rig is Nvidia Geforce 560(not sure if TI or not, when I was buying it, it said it was, but some programs say it isn't now), i7, 4gb RAM, and 400GBs space.
To tell you the truth, Optifine kept my FPS stable at 20-25 and not 5-35, but it made everything less smooth. The top half of doors took longer to update than the bottom half, pistons disappear when extending or pulling back, and blocks take a second or two to disappear after I break them.
It doesn't really matter. Like manu3733 said, Optifine is not being added. Dinnerbone even tweeted once that they don't even need it any more, or something.
Moving this thread back on topic now, what do you reckon the likely hood is that Jeb will actually release 1.4 on Halloween?
By the phrasing of his tweet I think he is leaving himself a little wiggle room in case all is not ready by the 31st ("Halloween wasn't a promise..."). That's understandable of course, it at least seems like they are going to push for Halloween and they are giving themselves a larger deadline than they did for 1.3 (which was only 1 month instead of 2), and that was even pushed back one day.
I think if they flesh out the nether more in future snapshots then it will be one of the Best. Updates. Ever.
Indeed, the uses of the nether are limited to 4 building blocks, and 4 (basic) resources limited to the nether. They reaaaallly need to add more content to the Nether. I suppose a reason to return to The End aswell, because why not?
I am all for this, since I love the Nether. Of course after this Halloween update (if it turns out that way) will make the place EVEN BETTER! gonna put some skulls and a Wither shrine down in Nether HQ.
Dinnerbone has come out with a name for this update. At first they were just going to add aesthetic features, but since they are going to release it around Halloween they are adding scary features too. Hence they've called it, the Pretty Scary update.
I should hope the nether gets fleshed out a bit. Its only purpose at this time is to give building blocks.
You could also make potions, but they're not that useful. Besides, you only have to get 1 blaze rod for that, and you can build a Netherwart farm right next to your portal. If you have a constant need for blaze rods (so, fire resistance potions) outside of the nether, than you may need to re-evaluate your play style. (Yes, I'm aware you can smelt with Blaze Rods, but considering how easily obtainable other fuels are, there's not much point. Besides, if you need an XP grinder you can use a skeleton dungeon in the overworld and get a constant supply of arrows).
If nothing , the overworld ores and diamond should be added to the nether , no coal because...it would burn or something...little nether dungeons with a spawner for nether mobs . Wouldn't be difficult and would add something to the monotony of tunneling thru endless netherrack...Burnt trees(charcoal) near lava lakes in soulsand . Just those very minor additions would make such a big difference...
But I surely wouldn't complain if they did more then that . dont call me shirley!!!
Yeah, and they would probably grow Nether wart instead of wheat.
I wonder what their trades would be like? Hopefully potions.
Hmmm...
If Pigmen are neutral mobs, does that mean zombie Pigmen would be turned into hostile mobs?
Here is a suggestion. Zombie Pigmen are neutral towwards you. However, they will attack regular pigmen like Zombies. And if they see you trading with a Pigman, they will attack you.

I agree with them attacking pigmen, and remaining neutral to you. But pigmen would have to be pretty hardcore to defend themselves against a near constant barrage of zombie pigmen though. Nether villages would need walls for sure.
Not sure about attacking you for trading with pigmen though, doesn't make a lot of sense to me. I think that zombie pigman behaviour should pretty much remain as it is now.

The exact reason I got sick of Optifine
I am ninja'd far too often.
