One of the biggest questions surrounding the newest snapshot for Minecraft has been regarding the new boss, "The Wither" and where it will be found in the game. I have two reasons for why it will be the nether.
1. Dinnerbone's Twitter: When asked this question on twitter Dinnerbone has repeatedly denied any knowledge of the new minecraft boss and has revealed no new information regarding it. Or has he? In reply to twitter user Sirhibbsy's message, "You know where the ghastly beast belongs" on 8/24 Dinnerbone said, "I've nether heard of it. Is there no end to these questions". I had to read it twice to pick it up but Dinnerbone clearly said "nether" instead of the proper term "never". No one seemed to pick up his clue and Dinnerbone then went on to say that something went over the guy's head.
2. Greek Mythology: In Greek mythology the guardian of the underworld was a three-headed dog named Cerberus. Since the nether is widely viewed as the "underworld" of Minecraft it would only make sense that the guardian/boss of it would be a three headed beast, which is the Wither.
But then why is the Wither black like an ender monster?
Not sure the coloration matters all that much. Look at the ghasts, they almost look like some deranged sea monster, with all those tentacles, and they're a solid white color. The only mob that (to me) REALLY fits the overall "look" of the Nether is the Magma Cubes.
With the Wither, perhaps think of it as black like smoke, instead of black like the End mobs.
Also, it shoots evil skulls at you that explode. And the Nether is a place where the sand has freaky faces in it. Seems to fit to me
What I don't understand is why it has more health than the Enderdragon.
I just hope it doesn't spawn on peaceful....otherwise, I would only get glowstone via having cheats enabled, because if that happens, I would never use the Nether again. And yet I already limit the amount of time I use the Nether.
Now that is more then one boss in the game. The Ender Dragon is pointless.
Eh? How does that make it pointless? The Enderdragon is still the "final" boss and the "win" condition for the game. I seriously doubt the Wither will be the same (as that'd make little sense). The point of defeating the dragon is to achieve that win condition, but I'm betting the point of fighting the Wither will be something else entirely. Perhaps access to some special item or something that you cant get elsewhere? I've no idea just what.
"I've nether heard of it. Is there no end to these questions".
"Ive Nether heard of it. Is there no End to these questions?"
Also, in the next quote you mention, Dinnerbone said "It went over (-world) your head."
So there is no proof it's in the Nether.
Also your parallels drawn between the Wither and Cerberus are utterly ridiculous. It's obviously more similar to Fluffy, the three headed dog from Harry Potter. So therefore the Wither should be found on the third floor corridor of a magic castle, not in the Nether.

The End is pretty small. The Nether is not. I'd guess that the problem we'll have is finding the thing, not avoiding it. So you shouldn't worry about it.
Even if you did decide to avoid the nether you can always get your glowstone from the Villagers.

That is true that he mentioned the other dimensions in his tweets, so theres no guarantee thats what he meant biut i still think the evidence strongly points to it being in the nether. I could be wrong though we'll have to just wait and see.
ok all of you people i was watching dinnerbones stream of skyblock and when the suggestion of making witherlings that were little servants of the wither. dinnerbone then responded with the statement "add more mobs to the nether? hmm..."
interesting right. i think its confirmed.
The Wither can only really be a boss for either the Overworld or the Nether, because The End is essentially a boss dimension. It will likely be found in rare structures that would be hard to access.
There should be a rare generated structure in the Nether made of obsidian, and it would have a stand with a diamond block on it. The Wither would be under the diamond block, and there would be a Netherrack floor. The Wither would drop a Wither Skull, which, when combined with an Enchanting Table and a Dragon Egg (you keep the dragon egg), would get you enchants of up to level 10. (except for certain ones like Unbreaking)

GENERATION 25: The first time you see this, copy it into your sig on any forum and add 1 to the generation.
The Nether doesn't seem fit for the Wither. After all, the Wither seems more like something that would kill everything on sight than the fiery denizens of the Nether.

Did something happen to you in your childhood to give you this unreasonable fear of rutabaga?
I just hope there's more than one. I wonder if he'll integrate the portal feature he's been working on to work out with the Wither. Maybe the Wither will hunt out your portal while you're there and try to cross to the overworld.
The way the Wither attacks passive mobs though makes me think it will live in the overworld, only spawning when certain conditions are met (possibly spawning from a nether portal). Sure you can get animals into the nether now, but it still seems like an unnecessary attribute for a monster that lives in a world with no passive mobs.
Dinnerbone did say -world, and the Nether is in the DIM -1 folder. Not only that, it's fire proof.
And blazes get killed by rain. Your point?
There's no make sense if Wither spawns in a world where only spawns hostile mobs and cuz is a boss I don't think he can go to other dimension that's or kill your nether cow farm and it's funny run to the villagers holding a sword when the Wither is attacking you
