Ok, let's get this straight. First off, I have no idea if I'm opinion the right forum or not, so feel free to move it.
So, last week I found iout that Microsoft is buying Mojang of Minecraft (Not too sure if their buying Minecraft of Mojang, so correct me.)
if I do say so myself, I am not too bothered if Microsoft does buy MC, as long as they don't get too out of hand will the updates and such. But, I don't know what you think, so decide in the poll.
Then, I'm really tossing and turniping, that it will be MC 2.0 or 1.10. I was surprised when MC 1.7.10 came out, because I was sure it would go to 1.8, but maybe that's just my noobish self.
So, that's my time of talking, now you decide.
Jnewby.

Why is 1.7.10 a surprise? Version numbers are NOT decimals. It will be 1.10. A 2.0 and 1.10 have COMPLETELY different meaning. 1.10 means it's a new version of the game. 2.0 means a sequel.
I was a bit stirred when Microsoft bought Mojang but I'm really not too concerned. I share the same opinion you have pretty much. I don't think too many things are going to change, Microsoft have already cleared up some misconceptions. They aren't abandoning development on other consoles and they have no problems with people monetizing their Minecraft Youtube videos. We still have the same game developers we had before.
There probably will be SOME changes though, for the better or the worse; we'll just have to see. It's in our nature to just abruptly reject and dislike any change whatsoever without even looking at what's happening but I just don't find that productive.

Let me know if my posts are helpful or if you like them. That's what I'm here for.
I am currently lurking more than I am posting. I haven't gone anywhere.
Version numbers aren't decimals. This should be obvious from the fact that there are two decimal points to begin with.
Microsoft hasn't done anything to warrant the mass panic yet. People are just panicking because they don't know what's going on or what's going to happen.
many people are looking at the Microsoft purchase I think in the wrong way.
I think of it this way- Mojang and Minecraft's owner will actually be more involved. Notch for a good long while just sidelined himself for a long time and had pretty much no involvement in Minecraft, leaving it all up to the developers. Now that that torch has been passed to Microsoft they might actually take an active role. Arguably, that is what people are afraid of, but let's be frank here- the fact is that Minecraft development has been ridiculously slow. I'm sure we see a lot of work they do that ended up getting scrapped, as well- but the fact is that processes and procedures exist to avoid exactly that. The problem with the current direction is that it's essentially "do what you want and if it's fun we might add it" that works when it is a small backwater project, but for some time now Minecraft has not been a backwater project, it has been a huge project with massive coverage, so it should have development processes and design processes to match.
Microsoft also has a lot more experience providing extensibility interfaces (plugins), going back to early versions of Office programs and pretty much anything since has had a plugin interface. I mean- Disk Cleanup even has a API interface.
Also note that Snapshots also follow a "Version scheme".
For example 14w34b
14 is the year in which the snapshot is released.
w stands for week. (literally)
34 is the actual week number the snapshot is released in. (so w34 is actually 1 segment of the version number/string)
the letter at the end is the revision. Starting at a, all the way to what's needed. (never seen it past d though)
Honestly as long as Microsoft doesn't go ahead and mess with the game too much, as in changing what's been allowed and considered normal all these years (example: modding etc..) I honestly don't care.
Uh... what's the question? Why am I comparing Microsoft and Mojang, and for what reasons? Why am I comparing two numbers, which may or may not be in relation to potential version numbers for the game? This seems rather pointless.
the game is boring and going nowhere in terms of general survival i wish things would change but microsoft wont change anything they just bought the company for profit so if anything we will just see more things to buy but mojang is still in creative control
your polls are meaningless its 1.10 no debate and the first poll doesnt even make sense
Since Mojang has revealed that the next version of Minecraft after the 1.9 release will be 1.10, this thread is somewhat irrelevant and no longer has much discussion value.

It would just make it more akward with a proper signature...
