I'm a miner. A Dwarf. Dwarves live in mines and dont come up to the surface unless they REALLY REALLY have to. If you disaggre with that you are not a Dwarf. Dwarves main priority is to mine, not farm, not kill pigs, and not go up to the surface. It's to mine. My house was in a mine before 1.8. I loved that house like I love my apendages. Now your telling me every few days or so i have to go to the surface to kill a couple pigs? And don't tell me to make a farm underground. If theres one thing I hate more than having to go to the surface, is having to use my hard earned materials to make a hoe, then farm. Yea, sure there will be a mod getting rid of the hunger bar in the future, but i go on at least 6 servers, and im op on each and everyone. Im not going to ask them to make the server a supportor of that mod, because i bet you a few thousand that they won't. So i made this topic for petition purposes. If you are a Dwarf that had to make changes to your Dwarven ways because of this hunger bar, respond.

Farm mushrooms, then? Feed on zombie flesh? On the server I play on, I live on a mountaintop where no passive mobs spawn, and I rarely ever leave it. So I just built a chambre inside the mountain to farm mushrooms, which requires nothing fancy to operate.

Pray tell, what do dwarves eat while they're in the mines, then? Also don't stereotype a race just because they're mythical. I'm sure some dwarves love farming, and we need to encourage that.
Also, chests underground often have wheat or bread and stuff(at least that's what I've found), you could work very hard at stocking up and eating what you find(finding mushrooms, you don't have to actually farm them)

So let me get this straight, you're a person who plays the game in a very specific manner which you enjoy. And the game has introduced a mechanic that many people enjoy however a few players with very specific gameplay styles like yourself dislike strongly.
Sounds like the most cut and dry answer is you need to get a mod. I don't see the issue here. Asking Notch to remove a feature so widely appreciated that adds so much to the game just because you and the small percentage of similar players disagree with it is rediculous.
As for your servers, the answer remains the same, either you adjust your playstyle to correspond with the server communities wishes or you convince them that a no-hunger mod is beneficial to the amount of fun the players on the server will have.
Not trying to be an ass honestly it's just when you read your post and look at the poll results it's a logical conclusion.
The thing about a resource game like Minecraft is that everything has its cost. If you want to turn that lump of iron ore into an ingot, you gotta burn something. You have to do something to get something. You have to spend time on one thing to have the resources you need to go spend time on something else.
You're complaining because one of the things you have to spend time on is something you personally find incompatible with the imaginary role of Dwarf you have chosen for yourself. Somehow you've conceived of your idealized Dwarven miner as someone who never needs to eat. OKay, fine. I might just as well conceive of my character's role as someone who can breathe water, and complain that the game keeps drowning me if I don't come up for air.

True, and you can have your opinion. I'm still wondering what you used to heal before(especially since food didn't stack!) Just never got hurt? :tongue.gif:

honestly, not to gloat but, not that often, even when im mining. even when i get hurt i get really lucky and find a dungeon with a few pieces of bread in it. or i die, and respawn near my bed in my house.
The hunger bar is not something you can just toggle. Other mechanics depend on it, or would be really unbalanced without it.
However, I see several cases for you. Either you avoid combat and taking damage so you don't need food. In that case, just play on easy or medium, and you won't starve to death Or you could even play on peaceful, since you aren't facing mobs anyways, and skip the entire deal altogether.
You could fight mobs. In which case, you are ever a god of combat and never get hurt, in which case playing on easy or medium and running around with a low health bar is not a problem, or you take damage.
If you take damage from fighting enemies, you either need food, in which case you should do what you did to get food on a larger scale, or you die periodically from health erosion. If you are dieing periodically from health erosion, you should probably be rethinking your strategy anyways, or just put up with dying somewhat more frequently.
I think you can probably survive the same way, you just might have to be more careful. Only sprint when you have food available! You can find TONS of mushrooms in the mines, just keep a bowl with you and you can scrounge for food. Lots of dungeons and abandoned mine shafts now... Be careful of blue spiders though, especially if you play on anything above easy! But other than that you really should be okay. There is still a lot of food underground. You can even survive on zombie flesh if you have enough of it to combat the increased hunger(which you will, fighting zombies nonstop).. So zombies, mushrooms, occasional fish when desperate.. I think it's manageable :smile.gif: You'll never have to go to the surface or farm for things. If things start getting CRAZY just leave mushrooms in a dark cave for an emergency. it's technically farming, but so hands off. Just come back to store your stuff and suddenly you've got a ton of mushrooms!

i do fight mobs allot, since i do make large mineshafts and not the kind of one people saw on kieshars "tutorial to find diamonds 2". i dont die all that often but every once in a while a creeper will just decide he doesn't like my existence.

That might work, but still, Dwarves JUST mine, (and sleep). but the point of this topic was to petition

Dunno where you get your definition of "dwarves" but if tolkien is anything to go by they do farm and fish

I yield at least a dozen mushrooms from a giant shroom. Easy to grow- easy to harvest.
Problem solved.
