This forum is disgusting. The occasional intelligent person who knows the value of money being swarmed and flamed by sheeple who act like Mojang is staffed entirely by their children. Notch's "as is" sales pitch was made in good faith with the implication that the game would eventually become a finished product. If he turns around and leaves things broken for months on end while he's vacationing in the ****ing Alps every other week (and apparently refuses to hire more staff to work on Minecraft other than one dude who also moonlights on another game) it doesn't make him any less of a scumbag just because he slapped an "AS IS" caveat on it.
You people and your attitudes are THE reason western civilization is slowing turning into a fascist corporatocracy. Please, grow the **** up. Really. It's sickening.
Well it also proves people think they are allowed to spend money without caution to nuance and then complain about those nuances later. Seems to me more like people who DON'T know the value of money than those who do. If someone went to a store and bought a PlayStation 3 game when they had an XBox, and then bitched about the game not working on their Xbox, you would probably give them the same amount of guff as the community gives some people here. Don't spend your money without caution! There are no system requirements listed anywhere for minecraft, and it is up to the consumer to decide if that is a safe purchase, not the developer. So you grow up, and learn how to REALLY spend money. P.S. look up the definition of Fascism and outline all of the Fascist points in this thread.
It IS however, unprofessional for Mojang to not list a cemented set of minimum requirements for their product.
Plus, if you read the terms of use it clearly says you are buying the game as it is as, with access to the final product. And it doesn't say anything about the in between time, and no one here has the right to decide how the developers spend their time. You didn't legally or technically pay them for their forthcoming time from the time of purchase, and they aren't your employee! You paid them for the product as it was, and as it will be at an unspecified time in the future. It is a gamble.
Any one who buys a lottery ticket and doesn't win has no one to blame but their self.
Your entire analogy about the PlayStation is flawed and incompatible with the argument you're trying to apply it to. The OP was asking if he could expect any more bugfixes for 1.8, not why he can't play Minecraft on his Gameboy. Seeing as it IS a beta one would logically assume that bugfixes are fairly commonplace; unfortunately this is Minecraft, where there's only one guy who is "dedicated" to working on it while Notch ****s off and plays around in game tournaments. Fact is the game could have been done by now if Notch (and by extension, Mojang) exhibited a little professionalism, but instead weeks upon weeks scrape by with no patches and then the patches we do get end up breaking more than they add to the game... and that is perfectly fine with the vast majority of this forum, because Mojang can do no wrong and shouldn't be held accountable for anything.
Also, I never said the thread was fascist. I said this mentality that corporations never do anything wrong and anybody who complains about their products (which is endemic to gaming forums everywhere now) is leading to a fascist corporocracy, which it very much is if you pay attention to the news.
If you learn to converse rather than argue, people will take you more seriously. As things are, though, your posts aren't worth my time.
It's not an argument because you have nothing worthwhile to say that can refute any of my points, which is what the definition of "argument" is. You playing the ol' "you're super-mean so I'm not going to dignify you with a response" opt-out clause is more than enough confirmation of that.
It very much ties into exactly what I said. Just because this particular thread isn't as blatant as some of the other flame-fests we've had on this forum doesn't mean it isn't a symptom of it. You can't criticize anything about this game without at least ten people coming out of the woodwork to insult you and ridicule you for doing so, and if you're delusional if you try to deny it. And as I said, just because Notch hasn't technically broken the terms of sale doesn't make his behavior any more respectable. Notch hasn't been more than tangentially involved in MC development for a long time now, the vast majority of the last 3 or 4 updates have been pretty much all Jeb. The dude sold it as-is for help finishing the development, got rich, and essentially abandoned it. That's not particularly praiseworthy in my estimation, so people who feel cheated over the money they've spent are perfectly justified in doing so.
If you are going to complain about an aspect of the game, then do your research. OP is OBVIOUSLY having a problem with his computer; it is not a minecraft bug, and people are going to tell him this.
You know what is really ruining western civilization? Entitlement. You paid for the product as it was. You are entitled to nothing else. It is outlined in the user agreement.
The dude sold it as-is for help finishing the development, got rich, and essentially abandoned it.
Um, no. He helped build a company around it and there are now more people working on it than when most people bought it. Your posts are full of baseless nonsense.

There's one guy working on it, with Notch occasionally tweaking a line of code or making a cow with mushrooms on its back. They also release updates far less frequently than they did when Notch was working on it by himself before he got rich, so I'm failing to see the big improvement here.

And we come back full-circle to my comment about sheep-people. It's natural to feel entitlement as a human being. It's what drives us as a species. Sorry.
The problem comes into play when the system of checks and balances society implements to counter this behavior can be flagrantly violated by corporations and people with enough money to buy their way out of trouble, and the very same mentality I'm complaining about is exactly what allows this kind of **** to happen on a daily basis. "Oh he has money, you're just jealous of him!" "Who cares if the game is broken and it takes months to get bugfixes, if you had money you'd be on vacation 360 days a year too!" And on. And on. And on. And on.
If Minecraft's development had always been this slow, there would be an argument to be made. As it stands now there just isn't. Anybody who thinks Notch is as loyal to his userbase and as hardworking as he used to be is simply delusional.

You're apologetic for this? Person A feels like he is entitled to something Person B has so he hurts/kills/steals from Person B to get it? Glad you think it is okay to defend that, and then turn around and tell people who shrug off the notion that they are entitled to minecraft stuff that THEY are wrong.
Pick a side. Either tell us we are wrong for knowing we aren't entitled to minecraft updates six times a day, or tell us that is our fault for buying an unfinished product. In this case there isn't much grey area here; simplify the variables for this particular instance.
Your comment on the frequency of updates shows more lack of understanding around software development.
Nothing you say has anything to support it, it's just mindless ranting. Unsubscribed.
Yes, there's some magical intricacy surrounding software development that explains why the game went from being updated multiple times per month to being updated every 3-4 months. It's not just because Notch stopped working on it and relegated it all to Jeb. Of course! It's that mystical Sixth Auspex of Software Development! How could I overlook it?! If only I had taken a computer science course back in school! Thank you for opening my eyes to the truth!

I don't really consider pointing it out to be same thing as 'defending' it, but no. I'm not going to apologize for human behavior, because it's the one similarity we all share whether or not everybody wants to admit it. Human civilization was formed in large part to combat the darker aspects of humanity, or we wouldn't need laws or punishment. It's natural to take what is there for the taking. You don't see animals that have qualms or moral crises over stealing or doing wrong; it's a strictly human phenomena. And before you say I'm supporting theft and murder; no, I'm not. I'm pointing out that entitlement is at the very core of what it is to even be alive in the first place, so claiming it's the catalyst for the backslide of the human race is a bit silly.
And smacking somebody down for expecting a corporation to behave in good faith after taking said person's money is a hell of a lot different from what you're talking about.
Pick a side. Either tell us we are wrong for knowing we aren't entitled to minecraft updates six times a day, or tell us that is our fault for buying an unfinished product. In this case there isn't much grey area here; simplify the variables for this particular instance.
This doesn't make sense. People who bought the beta were and are, I think, entitled to expect the same level of development and updating that existed prior to Notch becoming successful and rich. As I said, he sold the product as-is and then started spending far less time working on it after he made it big; to the point that it now feels almost neglected by comparison. It's not praise-worthy behavior in my opinion.
You only need to look at the current state of the video game industry to see where the notion that developers and publishers are infallible has brought us. There used to be a time when you busted your ass to release a game as feature-complete as possible, whereas now we're inundated with day one patches or games that are rushed out and remain broken while the companies that made them move on to other projects. People always come up with all kinds of reasoning to excuse it, saying that games are harder to develop now and blah blah; but what it really boils down to is that publishers know the vast majority of consumers will simply roll over and take it.
I think I might have found what one of the problems is. I was running 32-bit Java only, so I installed the 64-bit Java as well, and now 1.8 works without crashing, so far as I can tell. I suspect this latest build was done on the 64-bit Java platform, while the previous builds were done either on the 32-bit, or didn't fully utilize the 64-bit capabilities.
eck.. this is not where i intended on this going.anyways lets try this fresh.perhaps someone can help me figure out the problem, you want the error report fine.2nd i ain't no child, clearly someone was having a bad(not myself).right so back on topic here it is: all professional opinions respected.

Consider this thread derailed.
Your entire analogy about the PlayStation is flawed and incompatible with the argument you're trying to apply it to. Also, according to the official Minecraft website, if you have a suggestion or wish to report a bug, you do so through the feedback site.
I don't think there are many games that publicly list the system requirements while the game is still in alpha/beta. Also, there is this.
There's one guy working on it, with Notch occasionally tweaking a line of code or making a cow with mushrooms on its back. They also release updates far less frequently than they did when Notch was working on it by himself before he got rich, so I'm failing to see the big improvement here.
