Wow...ok basically whether you have a stack of 10 food or 10 non stacked food the fact that once ur at full hunger it wont affect the game at all means that the stacking is irrelevant. I mean if you getting beat on by a few mobs the regeneration isn't fast enough to heal you through any sort of damage u might take, plus the stack-able food only means you can have more room for other things in your inventory rather then filling it up with food, this is simply convenience it DOES NOT affect the difficulty of the game. Also how is hunger and stack-able food adventurey if anything it should have been added to survival sooner, and if the modes are ever split up hunger should stay in survival since to survive you need to eat not to magically heal wounds with pork...
TL;DR No, just no...
EDIT: Food isn't that easy to come by either id say chickens and pigs are rather rare now and cows aren't exactly everywhere either...
1. There is no adventure mode. STFU, noob. That was obvious a long time before release.
2. Food doesn't heal now.
3. It takes time to eat food, so that's even better than a cooldown.
4. Apparently, you don't like everything else. That doesn't relate to food, and I would imagine that if you wanted to argue about that point you'd argue about that too, else I could counter that I don't care about you.
That's about all I'm reading less than 3 sentences in. Good for you for sticking to your guns, but while you're with the rest of the crybabies out in the backyard, the boys and I are enjoying digging through mineshafts and strongholds and collecting awesome resources and surviving (Which is kinda, you know, the point.)
You say Adventure =/= Survival. I say you're [Censored][Censored]. :/ You don't walk 5000 miles and not get hungry. You don't carry 50 iron ORE BLOCKS in your inventory and expect to not snap clean in half (Which is why food stacks. It's this thing called balance. Maybe you've heard of it?)
I'm not going to bother beyond that, and point and laugh at you. God forbid the game actually becomes hard to play.
(Keep in mind I play with an Iron Sword, Bow, 1 stack of arrows, and only use a pumpkin as "armor" against endermen. And I play on hard difficulty... Not hard at all.)
"But LB! What about all the new kinds of food?"
That just makes it easier to get food! Remember when it used to be hard to go out and find a pig?
Maybe when you initially start and you don't have farms up and running. But who cares if the initial start of Minecraft is a little easier? I sure as hell don't. That's about a half hour of your Minecraft gaming that just got easier. That's it.
"LB, you're overreacting."
Maybe, but food still shouldn't be stackable, especially now that there are so many sources of food.
I've addressed this below. There's many different types of food. But animals become scarce over time because of being persistent. Before, after making a animal farm, you had infinite food. Now you don't.
"Just go play 1.7.3 then, LB, if you hate stackable food so much."
I am, I would rather give up all the amazing new features of 1.8 than play Minecraft with stackable food. However, it's killing me; I really would like to play 1.8.1 but the stackable food makes it just too easy.
Again, it was hard before? It was easy before. 1.8 brings variety, not quantity. And it removes passive mob farms. Stackable food? Big deal. I could carry two stacks of mushrooms, a bowl, and I was set for a Minecraft month. Stackable food? Same thing. Just less hassle (bringing out the workbench for the soup and then taking it back).
"Go out and fight some monsters on hard mode! I bet you'll die then, LB." Sure, because I'm some n00b that's only been playing since yesterday. No, actually, I've been playing since 1.2_02 and I've gotten the hang of monsters. :P
That was when you could heal instantly. Then again, if a player is any kind of competent, they shouldn't die. Then again, I played a game in the competitive arena, so I might be expecting too much.
"Can't you just download a mod, LB?"
Since when has a mod existed to fix bugs and balance issues in Minecraft? If you find a mod that plainly and simply changes the food stack limit back to 1 again, please link it here ;pFound. Now, link me to a mod that restores the 1.7.3 health system and removes experience. Then Survival Mode will stop being Adventure Mode.
NOT. ADVENTURE. Thank you.
"If I have the hunger system, I want stackable food, due to the annoyance to have space wasted in my inventory through food."
Fixing one evil by doing another evil...not good. The hunger system should be added to the Adventure Mode instead, along with stackable food, experience, NPC villages, abandoned mineshafts, and strongholds.
No it shouldn't. This isn't an argument at all. This is, "BLA BLA BLA OPINION." In other words, it doesn't belong here. Furthermore, those things don't belong in Adventure Mode. Adventure Mode is basically a place to put Adventure Maps so people can't cheat and can't break blocks, etc. And Hunger? Um... That's one of the first things that comes to one's mind when they hear Survival.
"If it was't bread, you would stack wheat (like in 1.7). Or you'd stack mushrooms to make bowls."
And now mushroom farming is completely pointless with giant mushrooms. Thanks for pointing out another imbalance.
Giant Mushrooms don't yield anywhere near as much as a decently sized mushroom farm, and they require manual harvest. Mushroom farming is not pointless.
"I'd say it's harder, AND less annoying. killing a bunch off animals doesn't fill up your inventory, and you have to wait to re heal when you're in a cave."
Food is too common, you will never starve. Period.
It's been that way, buddy. There's just more variety. And again, passive mob farms don't work anymore. There's LESS food as far as quantity goes.
"If it were the old food system i would agree with you"
Great! Too bad everything that should be in Adventure Mode is some how getting tangled up in Survival Mode.
Adventure Mode is completely different. It's basically Adventure Maps without the ability to cheat. How is 1.8 anything like that?
"But LB, you haven't given a clear argument as to WHY stacking food is overpowered and makes the game too easy, and you have set up nothing but straw-man objections to your position that simply beg the question anyway."
Why? I've already stated it a different way, but let me rephrase: food is far too easy to come by. In 1.7.3 if you needed food you could go find a pig, you could make mushroom stew from your slow-growing mushroom farm, and you could make bread in an instant without baking it. Now, we also find that cows, chickens, and zombies drop food, mushroom farms are useless because of giant mushrooms, and food is stackable. That's way too much food.
And food was hard to come by before? The only difference now is variety. Animals are persistent now (apparently, citation needed). So all those foods that make everything easy? Yeah, they diminish. Then your left with chicken, bread, cookies and watermelons. Arguably, cake. That's it. And even if they aren't persistent, food has always been easy to come by. Animal farms? Which are now broken and in the past. Things have only gotten harder. Stackable food only means you don't need to constantly run back to a certain spot and keep restocking.
The fact that you don't heal instantly makes this much harder, easily compensating for whatever crap you come up with.
"Maybe you'd prefer blocks to only stack to four, that would make survival hard..."
Of course it would be hard, and way imbalanced. I want balance more than I want hard, to be honest - and 1.8 is all out of whack. Just because Survival Mode has the word Survival in it does not mean it should try to be realistic and deviate from Minecraft's core concept: that you can create whatever you want but you have to work for it. I don't mean work as in go back and forth getting another stack of four blocks, I mean work as in mine your own resources, fight off monsters from your creations, and deal with the dangers of mining. Survival Mode should be Creative Mode minus Unlimited Inventory and with a health system, of course. The core of Minecraft should be Survival Mode - currently Adventure Mode is creeping in.
How is Adventure Mode creeping in? Adventure Mode is supposed to be something that nulls your ability to destroy blocks. And gives you quests and such.
All in all, Adventure Mode =/= adventure
The changes to the food system have made the game harder and convenient. Not easier.
DISCLAIMER: I did not intend to insult you at all like the other users did. I was aggressive though.
Really you're just overreacting to the fact that food is stackable, but you didn't take into account of everything else that pretty much makes it fair.
This is Survival Mode I'm talking about. Experience, stackable food & hunger, NPC villages, etc. are all supposed to be in the upcoming Adventure Mode. I had to draw the line somewhere, and stackable food just seemed far to overpowered in a survival aspect. It makes for great RPG/Adventure play, but that's not why I play Minecraft. To be honest, I dreaded 1.8 as soon as I heard that it was called the 'Adventure Update'.
If you have the hunger system you really need stackable food so... maybe the problem is you don't like the hunger system? I know I don't, at least not in the Survival Mode.
That said, I do agree with your assessment above. These new mechanics should be in Adventure Mode. The mechanics of Survival Mode should be those from 1.7.3; combat and eating both more simplistic, no hunger, no experience.
I completely agree with you in every way. When I found out about the adventure update, I was assuming it was going to be a separate gametype and when I found out it wasn't, I was mad! I've been playing since Alpha and my fondest memories of minecraft were in survival. I enjoy this game because in survival, you have to work for your creations and it is realistic enough to be fun yet not as easy as creative. I really dislike that I'm forced to play in adventure mode because I don't play to role play. But I'm forced to do it! I am glad I have found someone else who shares in my sentiments.
REALLY? You cant even be bothered to spell the mans name right? Let alone the rest of your post.
And for the rest of the debate. Nothing is final. Creative was thrown out for a year. Now its back while they are building up Adventure. Why? Maybe because the world is being built to now restrict the players ability to do everything and anything. So people who want to build now have creative.
Survival is now being thrown to the side now that proper game goal mechanics are being implemented and will return when they know what to disable out of adventure and balance it.
So there's a hunger system, and you want take up 5 spaces in inventory for only 5 food. You complain about something that makes the game less annoying, why not complain about Enderman being too weak and pick up user placed blocks? Or that the update took so long and had only half of it confirmed features?
Notch and Jeb never said adventure mode, they said adventure update. Adventure update to add more adventurist aspects to the game like villages, strongholds, ravines, and abandoned mines. Quit acting like you know everything cause you obviously didn't read what they wrote on twitter or other blogs, minecraft wiki, or even the commonly untrue forums.

No you aren't, you aren't forced to do anything. How does an adventure update change the fact that you still have to work for your creations? Is notch secretly planning on giving everyone creative-esque block building capabilities? No. Is he forcing you to role play? No. You can literally do everything you've been doing and nothing will change, other than the hunger system thus far which improved inventory management by leaps and bounds.

The 1.8 passive mob spawning system is largely incomplete from what Notch hinted at in 1.9. I assure you, if/when they're made to respawn in some form, someone will figure out how to automate farming them. Their intention definitely wasn't to remove passive mob farms, unless you have a quote?
Having the food stack-able is great no need to be using up half my invent just to take with me 15 bacon.
Uncooked, they only fill your hunger bar by 2'sih...
Cooked, its 4'ish
and now that the mines are huge... you could get lost, but im guessing your one of those who would dig straight up.
Sure at first you may say.. OMG there is so much food around, but go out and explore more, and you will find that you will be eating alot more, and running out faster.
Thats great that you take with you seeds, two buckets of water, and some dirt; but thats how you play.(Make have to sit and wait a about 20min to get the food; by then die of hunger)
Dont forget these are just your opinions, and every one else has added theres.
P.S. Loving you arrogance in your own questions to yourself, as well as the shove off answers you placed, we all need a good laugh.
"LB, stop being lazy; just throw the extra food out of your inventory."
That's besides the point, we all know that on survival servers people almost never follow user-made rules.
Best one there, but you are a kid after all, so you wouldnt even follow your own rules; even if you find it unbalanced, dont force it upon others. (I think Germany may know that, and Japan)
Just set your own goal little boy, and let others play to the limit of what they feel they can..
ANIMALS DO NOT RESPAWN ANYMORE. They only spawn upon chunk generation, then never despawn after that. That's right! This means that meat will only sustain you for a while until the animal resources are exhausted in your region! Then you are forced to farm, and it limits your food options to wheat, melons, mushrooms, and chicken (you can farm chickens with eggs).
Basically, to put it bluntly, stfu and quit your whining. Food is not that common, and actually takes effort to get.
TL;DR No, just no...

I hate running into stringholds
