1.7.3 should have marked the end of the mechanic changes to Survival Mode. 1.8 mechanics should have ushered in the Adventure Mode era.
Between the new bow and healing mechanics, I'm not at all looking forward to exploring caves. I feel significantly less powerful than before. It's not that I don't like a challenge, but I liked the mechanics the way they were.
We can't even use F3 anymore to see where mobs are lurking.

The finding mobs using F3 thing was basically cheating. I'm not happy that it's gone, I don't care either way. Hey, at least we can see our map's seed using F3 now :smile.gif:.

True, true. It just would have been nice if Notch had added some sort of "Monster Detector" to somewhat compensate for the removal--just a compass that points to the nearest monster. Sounds like a good use for Ender Pearls, actually...
My more legitimate complaint about losing the IDs in F3 is that now it's harder to verify that large traps are working. It was nice being able to see mobs go through otherwise-hidden paths to see if they were getting stuck somewhere or something.
P.S. Actually, one could similarly consider using the coordinates found in F3 as cheating. I actually considered it such when I first started playing. Now I find them instrumental in my larger construction projects.
I don't get it. OP isn't against change, but something changes and he doesn't like it. Obviously you're against some kinds of change. Everyone is.
I was a little less sure that this game would remain the way I was used to, so I didn't get as mad when things changed. I didn't really get mad at all, actually. I don't believe the features you've listed as detrimental are even close to eclipsing the main idea of the game.
Stackable foods and many more meats and food types pretty much makes up for the hunger.
The EXP however shouldn't have been added in a stage where it was pretty much useless except for proof of concept.
And hell, if you like to build, go ahead and build, experience isn't stopping you or forcing you to do anything.
Replace "build" with whatever your favorite activity is.
It depends what experience is used for. Rumor has it there will be a related skill system that includes things like increased mining speed and the like. If so, then those who just want to gather resources and build will be pressured into combat in order to build efficiently. That ain't cool in a sandbox game.
It seems that every update total ruins the game and makes it 100% unplayable, judging by the community's reactions.
I've seen this countless times on the Team Fortress 2 forums. Every update brings a slew of "X is OP" or "X is UP" or "OMG VALVE I QUIT FOREVER" threads that rival the rage of the entire Internet. Over the course of several weeks, the forums calm down. Before long only one or two weapons are bickered over and the entire thing blows over until the next RAGE!update comes out.
That's what we have going on here.
I like the changes. Minecraft is both a creativity toy and a survival game. Play on Peaceful if you want to ditch the latter.

And this change has forced me to play on Peaceful, screwing almost all of my major creations were are based around being mob traps. This won't "blow over" so long as my desired means of gameplay is ruined.
I agree to this man's post 100%.
WHO GIVES A FLYING ****?!?!?!
Just the READ the OPs comments to all of YOU GUYS COMMENTS. HE IS TROLLING YOU ALL!!!
You fall victim to another troll. He doesn't care what you have to say. I am like 90% sure this topic is UNNECESSARY and overall STUPID.
Opinions are Opinions. This man only posted this up to see the LOOK on ALL OF YOUR FACES when he said he DISLIKED the update.
Good Day to you all!
PS
I love Minecraft, but it's community is **** face retarded as a sack of rocks.

I think you just mad, bro.
